Description
The Scottish FA is looking for a Youth National Team Head Coach & Academy Coach Mentor to prepare, develop, coach and select players for the national youth squads in accordance with the Game Model & Performance Strategy and pro actively develop and deliver the Scottish FA Academy Coach Development Programme. The job holder will deliver CPD and mentoring to identified Academy coaches and coaching groups and support the delivery of other Coach Education courses and CPD events.
The ideal candidate has sound experience of youth player development and coaching at an elite youth level, preferably as a head coach and within the transition stage to the professional game (16-21 years). With a minimum of a UEFA 'A' Licence or Elite Youth A Licence, the job holder will be an experienced and competent development coach at elite coach level, ideally knowledgeable of Scottish FA Coach Education Programmes and experienced as a Coach Education Tutor or Mentor.
The best person for the job is an excellent and engaging communicator, is organised, logical, and competent from an IT perspective.
The role will require a fair degree of flexibility, both in terms of working hours and travelling, and will be subject to a satisfactory PVG check.
Key Responsibilities
National Youth Team Head Coach
Prepare, develop, select and coach selected youth players for the national youth squads in accordance with the Scottish FA Performance Strategy.
Work with key internal personnel including the assigned Team Manager/Administrator, the Performance Operations Manager and the Talent ID Manager to ensure that the highest level of service is available to the relevant national youth squad and that all policies and procedures are complied with in full.
Lead the technical staff and multi-disciplinary team at any given event which will include an Assistant Coach, a Goalkeeping Coach, Sports Scientist, and a Performance Analyst to ensure a high performance environment is established.
Work with the medical lead (i.e. Team Doctor) for the duration of any event.
Deliver team tactics and direction/guidance to players throughout the duration of any given event.
Work with the assigned Team Manager/Administrator and Performance Operations Manager to ensure that all competition regulations are complied with at any given event including the eligibility of any player for any given match. This will include the status of any player with regard to disciplinary and suspension status.
Provide regular technical reports and updates to the relevant internal technical groups on team and player performance.
Assist any other National Team Coaches and squads as requested by the Head of Men's Performance Coaching.
Submit comprehensive scouting reports on talented youth players at club level on a monthly basis, ensuring that all the relevant information is entered into the SFA national database for players.
In conjunction with the Talent ID Manager and working within the procedural requirements of the Talent ID system, develop a pipeline of talent in order to ensure that there is a succession plan in place for each position in the relevant national squad.
In conjunction with the Head of Men's Performance Coaching design and deliver communication mechanisms in order to provide detailed feedback to all players, clubs and staff associated with the national squads
Scottish FA Academy Coach Development Programme
Reporting to the Head of Men's Performance Coaching, assist in the design and delivery of the Academy Coach Development Programme.
In support of the Club Academy Scotland criteria, ensure the Scottish FA provide high quality coach CPD and mentoring opportunities.
Liaise closely with the Coach Education Team, ensuring learning outcomes are co-ordinated and not duplicated.
Act as a Coach Mentor on site at clubs over a set number of days per month to develop selected club coaches as part of the Academy Coach mentoring programme.
Develop positive relationships with relevant staff at Academies such as Heads of Coaching and Heads of Youth Development and other senior club personnel to ensure a collaborative approach between the Scottish FA and Clubs.
Identify individual coach capabilities and prepare individual development plans.
Provide progress reports as required.
Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time by the Head of Men's Performance Coaching.
