Youth Development Phase Goalkeeping Coach


Derby County Football Club, established in 1884, is one of the founder members of the English Football League and has a rich and varied history, including two First Division titles in 1972 and 1975 and an FA Cup success in 1946. The club are currently playing in League One, the third tier of English Football, and is under the management of Head Coach, Paul Warne. The club also boasts a successful and respected Category One Academy, a status which has been held since 2014. Derby County is embarking on an exciting new era following the change in ownership to Clowes Developments (UK) Limited. Derby County Football Club has an opportunity to join our Academy Coaching Team at our Category One Academy as a Youth Development Phase Goalkeeping Coach.


Our Academy's vision is to continue to provide talented, well-balanced young professional footballers for Derby County's first-team squad and become recognised as the ‘Academy of Choice’ for young players within our local area and beyond.

Our mission is to identify, develop, and support talented young footballers so that they can achieve their maximum potential in a positive, supportive, and professional learning environment.

The successful candidate will deliver the Academy Goalkeeping coaching program, primarily across the U12 – U15 age groups and support the wider Academy Goalkeeping Coaching program across all phases.


Key Responsibilities:


To aid in the development and management of the Academy Goalkeeping program, focusing on the youth development phase (U12 – U15)
Design, deliver, and review age—and phase-specific goalkeeping sessions in accordance with the academy philosophy and goalkeeping curriculum.
To be integrated with the outfield coaching staff around session planning, individual player development, player reviews and management of goalkeepers' game minutes.
Review training and games through analysis and provide age-specific feedback.
Work in conjunction with the Goalkeeping department to allow alignment and consistency across the program.
Discuss, deliver and review players' Individual development plans.
Provide detailed feedback on the goalkeeper's game and training performances through analysis platforms and face-to-face reviews.
Commit to their own self-development and be driven to continually development themselves.
Work closely with key staff within the phase to ensure the best possible plan for the players, both short—and long-term.
Communication within the goalkeeping department – potential problems that could occur across player development.
Provide a detailed training plan to all key staff in the phase – informing staff of the goalkeeping plan regarding training and games, the week's goalkeeping curriculum, and the integration links for the outfield coaching staff.
To attend briefings, courses, and seminars, as able or as required by the Club, The Premier League, and The Football League and commit to undertake Continued Professional Development.
To demonstrate consistently high standards of behaviour and operate within the parameters of the club code of conduct, the Laws of the Game, the Rules of the Football Association or the FA Premier League.
Personal characteristics and experience:

Experience working with Goalkeepers within an academy structure.
Experience in coaching Youth development phase age goalkeepers is desirable.
Experience working within a Category One Academy is desirable.
Can plan, deliver, and review goalkeeping sessions effectively and efficiently
Robust skills and knowledge of Goalkeeping techniques in and out of possession.
Excellent people management skills.
Confident, Resilient and Self Motivated
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to positively influence.
Excellent Presentation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, target driven environment.
Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
Work using your own initiative and as part of a team.

Salary dependent on experience



This is a full-time position based at our training ground in Oakwood, Derby.

This role will require weekend and evening work in line with the Academy programme.
