ROLE DESCRIPTION

Birmingham City Football Club is actively seeking an Interim Psychologist to work closely with the Technical Director, Head of Performance Services, Lead Supervision Psychologist, Head Coach and multi-disciplinary team to lead psychological provision in support of the women’s first team.


You will be expected to influence and shape standards to be at the forefront of a High-Performance training environment.


The role will require the ability to accommodate flexible working hours including evening and weekends and occasional travel overseas.


As a key addition to the Player Welfare department, you will be responsible for supporting players' mental well-being and performance through individualised training, offering emotional assistance, and fostering positive team dynamics.


THE ROLE//



Proactively drive a performance-impacting service for players, coaches, and the wider MDT.
Work with key support staff, coaches and players to identify targeted individual psychological support requirements.
Produce clear and transparent plans that are linked to the players’ individualised performance plan.
Produce clear and measurable objectives that are regularly reviewed with the players and coach.
Work with the Women’s Technical Director, the Head Coach and Lead supervising Psychologist to develop a vision and culture that supports both performance and well-being.
Assist individuals and the team to work effectively within the culture through one to one and group sessions
Identify and facilitate appropriate communication methods, (including workshops), to inform and educate players, coaches and the wider MDT in the effective use of psychological support and mental training
Attend training and match days in an observation and positive intervention role
Assist in the review of progress, holding the team accountable for behaviours that fit with the culture of the team. Facilitate feedback meetings (and recommend action where appropriate) to drive the culture and be pro-active in assessing how the team operates in the training and performance environment.
Maximise the support and supervision available from the Lead Supervising Psychologist
Facilitate effective working relationships between the coaches, and between the coaches and wider SS/SM team
Within the rules of professional confidentiality liaise with players, primary care managers, parents, coaches and other support staff as appropriate
Work within the rules of the UK Professional Code of Conduct, standards and guidelines
Maintain a comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with players and coaches
Undertake any other reasonable duties for the Women’s Technical Director, Head Coach, Lead Supervising Psychologist and other colleagues as requested.
Any other duties as may be requested .


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE//



Essential Requirements:

MSc in Sport Psychology or Psychology (or equivalent).
Currently hold British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Status, British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Accreditation or other relevant applied accreditation.
Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or working towards (SEPAR)
Ability to work using own initiative and maintain independence within the environment.
Experience of working with young people and engaging hard to reach clients.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Disciplined approach to note-taking and the appropriate use of information technology.
Excellent presentation and communication skills that can motivate behavioural change to have a positive impact on performance.




Desirable requirements:

Valid FA Safeguarding Workshop Certificate.
Experience in Women’s Football -Women’s Championship/WSL
Experience within professional football
Experience within professional sport.
Possess qualifications in counselling, and or counselling skills, and an understanding of the importance of relationships to effective practice.
Experience working within a high performing environment
