An incredible opportunity has arisen for an individual to become the Head Coach for the newly formed Wigan Athletic Women’s team. This is a chance to be there at the start of this historical journey.
The successful candidate will be responsible for Developing an elite environment for the progression and development of female players at the Club and delivering high quality coaching sessions.
Working hours: 12 hours, including availability for weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.
Contract type: Fixed term.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and direction for the Open Age Women's Team, ensuring a positive and professional team culture. Liaise with the Head of Women’s Operations and the Sporting Director to align team goals with the club's overall strategy.
Plan, organise, and deliver high-quality training sessions focusing on technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of the game. Work closely with the Assistant Head Coach and Goalkeeping Coach.
Develop game strategies, support match analysis, and manage the team during matches to optimise performance. Collaborate with the Club Analyst for insights and strategic alignment.
Identify and nurture individual player talents, providing feedback and personalised development plans to enhance their skills and potential.
Identify and implement short term, medium term and long term goals for each individual in the Women’s Team alongside relevant staff.
Stay updated with the latest coaching techniques, sports science, and industry trends to continually improve coaching practices.
Work alongside the Head of Women’s Recruitment to assist in the scouting and recruitment of talented players to strengthen the team.
Develop a link with WAFC Community to ensure players within their programmes get the opportunity to have trials with the Women’s Team.
Health and Wellbeing: Monitor the physical and mental wellbeing of players, ensuring they receive appropriate support and guidance.
Maintain accurate records of training sessions, player performance, and match reports. Ensure compliance with all club policies and regulations. Coordinate administrative duties with the team Administrator.
Serve as the point of contact between the Women’s Team and players' parents/guardians, providing updates and managing expectations. Coordinate with the Head of Safeguarding to ensure all communications adhere to safeguarding policies.
Promote the team within the local community, encouraging attendance at matches and participation in club events. Collaborate with the Head of Women’s Operations to develop community outreach programs.
Provide appropriate feedback to players and staff, ensuring continuous improvement and development. Regularly report to the Head of Women’s Operations and the Sporting Director on team progress and performance.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL:
UEFA B License
CPD License maintenance
FA Safeguarding Children
Emergency First Aid
Posses a clean current driving license
Proven track record of coaching women’s elite football
Demonstrated success in player development and team management.
Experience in creating and implementing training programs.
Strong leadership and motivational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Strategic thinking and tactical expertise.
Desirable:
UEFA A License
Level 3 Safeguarding Children
Talent ID
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be aged over 18 years.
The role will require an enhanced DBS check
