For decades, our club’s Academy has been one of the most respected and renowned in football. Its vision to develop young players who are technically and tactically capable of playing for Everton or having a career in the professional game remains as focused as ever.
We now have a unique and extremely exciting opportunity for an experienced coach to join us as our U23s Head Coach within our Academy.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the planning and delivery of our tactical and technical coaching programme for the U23s team, with a focus on producing players capable of making the transition to first-team football.
Reporting into our Head of Academy Coaching, the U23s Head Coach will be responsible for the coaching and development of the U23s team, ensuring we deliver on our coaching philosophy and vision whilst reflecting and representing the values of the Academy and the club.
Our U23s Head Coach will play a pivotal role in ensuring we as a club maintain our standard – Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.
Responsible for planning and delivering the tactical and technical coaching programme for the group in order to produce players capable of making the transition to first team football, primarily at Everton.
To coach the U23s in League and friendly matches, both home and away.
To coach the U23s in tours and tournaments, both at home and abroad, as required.
To liaise with all key U23s personnel when planning and arranging coaching sessions to ensure the appropriate support is in place (e.g. sports science, medical, recruitment, education, etc.) and that the timetable fits with all other U23s activities.
To evaluate all coaching sessions and matches and ensure that the relevant information is recorded fully on the club’s Performance Management System.
To work with the Head of First Team Recruitment and Head of Academy Recruitment in respect of player acquisition.
Player Development and Progression
To profile the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological attributes of each player, then create and agree individual development programmes for them.
To compile performance reviews, in line with the requirements of the EPPP, and deliver feedback to players and parents both formally in meetings, and informally as required.
To compile a formal report of conclusions and actions following the performance review meetings and ensure that these are recorded on the club’s Performance Management System.
To liaise on a daily basis with the Lead Coach, Phase Leads and other coaches to ensure that the needs of all players are catered for.
Monitor potential safeguarding children risks and work with the Academy Safeguarding Officer, and the Head of Safeguarding for Everton Football Club to promote safer working practice throughout the Academy.
Understand the Academy Safeguarding policy, procedures and best practice guidelines. Use this understanding to ensure safer recruitment, safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to an anti-bullying environment.
Other Responsibilities
Take responsibility for personal performance and the development of personal skills to ensure the required skills, knowledge and competence to fulfil the role.
Encourage and promote the values of Everton Football Club and to comply with the required standards of conduct and so promote the club within the community by acting with integrity and honesty.
Keep the Head of Academy Coaching fully informed on all matters relating to the players.
Be aware of the EPPP rules and requirements relating the Professional Development Phase.
Attend staff meetings as required.
Attend games in the Professional Development Phase as required.
Attend games involving other Clubs for scouting and recruitment purposes, as required.
Be aware of current trends and best practice in Professional Development.
Continually look for ways to develop and improve our coaching programme in the Professional Development.
Attend at least 5 hours of in-service training organised by the FA each year and the first aid training for U23/ Academy coaches at least once every 3 years.
Undertake Continued Professional Development organised by the Club.
Attend staff meetings as required.
Attend training courses and external seminars and meetings as appropriate/required.
Be aware of current trends and best practice in your field of specialism.
Continually look for ways to develop and improve the service provision of the department.

Ensure that all work is completed in a priority basis, and work meets a high degree of professionalism, quality and craftsmanship.

Ability to plan, deliver, develop and monitor coaching sessions on football.

Ability to mentor and share own experiences to develop other coaches.

Computer literate (with excellent abilities on Word, Excel and ideally Database knowledge and application).
Experience of working with and supporting players in the youth development and professional development phase group during coaching sessions.
Experience of working with and supporting players during coaching sessions.
Experience of co-ordinating activities for a large number of people.]
Evidence based experience of supporting and mentoring coaches.
Experience of working within the football industry, in particular within the youth and professional development phase.
Knowledge of FA regulations in regard to youth team football/ Academies.
Experience of liaising with internal and external clients and stakeholders at a senior management level.
Experience of teaching children and or young adults.
Enthusiastic and hard working.
Enjoys interacting with a wide variety of people on a daily basis.

FA Advanced Youth Award.
Membership of the FA Coaches Club.
Emergency First Aid Certificate.

Satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
Full, Clean Driving Licence.
Uefa Pro License.
