Role description

Our Football Tutor will lead on the teaching and mentoring of prisoners as part of the Twinning Literacy Project.

Working two days out of HM Prison Parc in Bridgend, two days from HM Prison Cardiff, and one day from the Foundation Office at Cardiff City House of Sport. The role will be one of two staff members that will deliver Functional Skills English Level 1 qualifications, as well as Level 1 football coaching qualification to cohorts of up to 16 inmates. This work contributes towards supporting Cardiff City Foundation’s vision and mission.



To prepare, maintain and develop schemes of work, teaching and mentoring resources relevant to delivery.

Record project engagement using VIEWS (impact reporting system).

Ensure collection of Outcome Data using VIEWS.

Regular Impact Stories from project delivery.

Assess and moderate learners’ work.

Effectively monitor and mark student progress through the review process, developing action plans where learner standards require.


To work as part of a team in the prisons to deliver the programme.

Act as a positive role model at all times.

To report to line manager with weekly updates on the recruitment, retention, and delivery of the programme.

To use the Rota Cloud scheduling system to ensure safe delivery of sessions.

To attend termly team briefings, half year and end of year appraisals with line manager.

Effective use of the Breathe HR platform to request annual leave, record training and sickness.


To ensure delivery takes place in line with the project delivery plan to maximise use of project resources in line with budgets.


To maintain effective partnerships with prison staff and beneficiaries.

Communicate sensitively to diffuse any potential situations of conflict.

To ensure clear and concise information is shared with line manager.

To be an efficient communicator when delivering teaching and mentoring with beneficiaries.

Develop and complete engaging one to one meetings with learners to construct individual learning plans (ILP).

Differentiate learning to meet individual learners’ needs including providing extra support for learners with LDD needs.

Be innovative to engage and motivate difficult and challenging individuals.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and health and safety when delivering to ensure people are kept safe.

Effective use of the MyConcern platform to report, record and monitor any new or open safeguarding concerns.

Comply to all protocols that HM Prison Parc and HM Prison Cardiff have outlined when working in their setting.

To fulfil all security requirements of the prison, prison estate or teaching venues regarding prisoners, equipment, and professional conduct.


Attend training events, conferences, and scheduled learning & development sessions to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to your post when asked.

Fulfil deadlines set by line manager and key partners with regard to reporting of key performance indicators and other targets.

Attend and participate in meetings with Foundation staff, programme funders and other meetings when required/agreed to do so.

Promotion of company values & behaviours across the organisation.

To carry out any additional work and duties that meet the needs of the business.

To undertake any relevant training as required by line-manager or in line with expectations of the programme funder.
