ACADEMY FOOTBALL TALENT SCOUT - MEXICO



San Diego FC (San Diego FC) is the newest member of the MLS family. As part of the unique Right to Dream model and the Sycuan Tribe’s deep roots, we are proud to be building a San Diego-centric soccer organization that honours our history and celebrates emerging excellence.



SUMMARY:

Based in Tijuana, Mexico, the Talent Scout will identify talent with significant future potential (aged 12-17 years) from Mexico, particularly within the FIFA specified SDFC homegrown territory within 50km of the border. They will bring an extensive knowledge base of and network from these soccer communities, whilst working within the existing framework for talent scouting set by SDFC and RTD.



This role will also support the EVP and other leaders with soccer operation tasks that aid the development of the academy.



Reporting to the Director of talent scouting in Mexico, they will also cooperate with the Head of Talent Scouting & Recruitment and EVP Academy. They will align with other SDFC scouts, and the work being done by Right to Dream scouts globally. They will embrace and understand the cultural dynamics, opportunities, and potential role of SDFC and RTD in the US and Mexican soccer ecosystem.


RESPONSIBILITES:



Primary Role:

Scout potential players for the academy
Support other strategic scouting projects and operational needs


Secondary Role:

Support the EVP Academy and other department leads with specific operational tasks to aid the development of the academy (some travel logistics, event operations, presentation, etc.)


Key Responsibilities:

Attend games, tryouts and tournaments at varying levels to build a knowledge of players
Recommend the most suitable players on a regular basis as per the department processes
Undertake analysis and due diligence on relevant target players
Build and maintain a network of contacts in local soccer communities to facilitate recruitment, player development, fan engagement and the growth of the game
Liaise with and support Academy staff to arrange trials and visits for target players
Develop an intimate knowledge of the talent pool in the local community and SDFC
Support player recruitment at an interpersonal level, engaging with player and family transitions and undertaking home visits if required


QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates can meet the requirements with a combination of experience in the following areas:



Essential:

Bilingual (Spanish & English) mandatory
4 years of experience in professional soccer scouting role
Track record in talent identification of elite academy soccer players
Deep knowledge and network of local (Mexico) youth soccer
Knowledge of youth, college and pro player pathways
Understanding of professional soccer club player development
Experience in other soccer operations roles
Share in the values of SDFC and Right to Dream; appreciates the importance of character, education, and pathway in addition to football potential
Desirable: Knowledge of areas that are of strategic interest to SDFC, e.g. Mexico, Native American Reservations, NCAA, and residential programs.
