Job summary

West Ham United Foundation are looking for a degree level candidate to assist the Development Manager at West Ham United Foundation and Deputy Headteacher Pastoral team at BSix Sixth Form College, to fully engage disengaged students within their education, seeking to raise aspirations and create a focused improvement plan while also increasing the range of extra curricular sporting opportunities for females within the sixth form college.

Key Responsibilities:

* To Work closely with disengaged students to ensure they access their learning, and engage positively in their lessons.

* Develop and deliver recreational sports programmes to students Encourage positive choices with students who you directly work with, raising aspirations and their future outlook.

* Integrate students who may be facing, or have faced challenging circumstances, back into learning and lessons.

* Always relate conversations back to positive outcomes, choices and academic success.

* Challenge students who fail to comply and adhere to the sixth form college expectations, ethos and values.

* Contact, and/or meet, parents/carers of students where there is a concern.

* Formulate bespoke action plans and targets for students who you specifically work with, and review these on a weekly basis.

* Ensure all activities are delivered safely and are age appropriate.

* Follow both West Ham United Foundation and BSix Sixth Form College protocols and procedures.

* Enhance the education experience for students who face barriers or emotional/behaviour difficulties, playing an integral role within the Pastoral Support Team.

* Support students with their academic studies and enhance their performance across all subjects.

* Assist the Enrichment and Foundation Learning team in supervising and delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award to students as part of their study programme.

* To monitor and ensure at all times a high standard of cleanliness, maintenance and safety for gym equipment.

After contacting and taking guidance from the Safeguarding Team, staff must use the Club’s Child Protection Online Management System (CPOMS ) to record the concern within 24 hours unless directed to do otherwise.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: -Essential (E) Desirable (D)


* Level 2 Sports coaching qualification (E)
* A recognised fitness qualification (D)
* A minimum level 2 Youth Work qualification or equivalent (D)
* Experience of working with young people in different settings e.g. Sixth form colleges, sports clubs and wider community settings (E)
* Experience of working with external partners e.g. local authorities, youth offending and youth services (D)
* Mentoring qualification or experience (D)
* Safeguarding and first aid qualification (D)

* An understanding of how to deliver sessions to mixed ability groups (E)
* Demonstrate an understanding of how effectively engage young people who may be disengaged (E)
* Knowledge and understanding of the principles of youth work (E)
* An understanding of the issues and barriers impacting young people (E)
* Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication / presentation skills, which are culturally competent (E)
* ICT Literate (E)
* Able to work within a diverse community and draw on individual strengths to promote individual development (E)
* Able to effectively communicate with participants and the public (E)
* Good organisational skills, able to prioritise and work within deadlines (E)
