Role description

The Position:
Reporting to the COO, the Strategy Manager will be involved in supporting the delivery of the FAI Strategy 2022-2025. Working with a variety of key stakeholders, including Senior Leadership Team, Staff, Leagues, Clubs, Sport Ireland and UEFA the person will be expected to carry out in depth analyses of current and potential football growth strategies. The role will support department leaders to develop regular performances reports against objectives, segments and areas of the game to be served in line with FAI budgets/forecasts.

Job requirements

Strategy Development

Work with departments to develop sub strategies that ladder up to the FAI #WeAreOne Strategy 2022-2025 (e.g. League of Ireland, Women Football)
Liaise with stakeholders to seek feedback on our strategic objectives and execution of our plan
Evaluation of new opportunities for Irish football e.g. robust analysis to support the development of business cases

Business Planning

Work with internal Departments to develop annual business plans which incorporate activities, budgets, human resources and KPIs
Work with CEO and COO to prioritise resources (financial and people) ensuring that the Association is investing for maximum impact

Project Management

Work closely with divisions to track on a monthly basis execution of the activities and KPI that make up their business plans

Generating business insights and intelligence reporting for Board and other stakeholders
Responsible for the management of strategic risk, generating reports for the FAI Board and Committees


Stakeholder Management: Take an active role in fostering internal and external relationships that can present opportunities for the association (e.g. Government, UEFA, FIFA)
Special Projects: Provide support for special projects ranging from the UEFA EURO 2028 Bid to Government Relations

The successful candidate will have the following:

Experience knowledge

Degree in business/related field, or relevant professional experience
Good knowledge and experience in strategy development with a depth of expertise and a toolkit of best-in-class practice and policy.
Expertise of developing organisational and component strategies that span multiple functions and aspects of the FAI purpose.
A track record of effective influence and interaction at senior level.
Ability to work towards collective outcomes, galvanising and energising teams and colleagues, through strategy development KPI management.
Ability to work in a collaborative and inclusive manner
A track record in developing successful strategic plans for sports organisations with proven results to grow the sport.
Experience of playing a role in supporting senior management, keeping the focus on strategic objectives and ensuring the organisation is clear on the milestones they must reach in order to deliver the FAI Strategy 2022-2025.
Ability to quickly establish credibility with Senior Leadership Team FAI colleagues.
A love for football and understanding of the football and wider sporting landscape
