What is the role?
We have an exciting new opportunity for someone to join our Sports Medicine department in the role of Sports Therapist. The purpose of the role is to work closely with Lead Physiotherapist (Girls & Women’s) to streamline provision for the Women’s First Team. This will include providing all Women’s First Team players with the best methods of sports therapy integrating a holistic approach to enhance conditioning, injury prevention, rehabilitation and advice, thus enabling them to optimise their performance.
You’ll be developing, organising and implementing movement dysfunction screening programmes along with associated pre-activation, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation strategies based on the Girls’ & Women’s sports medicine team strategy. You’ll actively contribute to the creation of a medical/science department that is viewed as a centre of excellence in injury & illness prevention, injury management and cutting edge medical and science research and development.
Specific responsibilities include:
Deliver suitable and appropriate soft tissue therapy manual techniques based on scientific evidence and clinical knowledge to aid in injury prevention.
Provide necessary soft tissue therapy to the Women’s First Team on home and away matches, pre and post-match, providing continuity of service and excellent logistic planning, and communicate any findings to the Lead Physiotherapist.
Organise daily pre-activation and pre-hab programme strategies.
Demonstrate interaction with the medical team MDT to provide a holistic approach towards management of the squad. This includes liaising appropriately with coaching staff, sports science staff, and psychology staff.
To act as match day Sports therapist for the Women’s First Team, assist in providing first aid and acute injury management on match days.
Ensure the management of soft tissue treatments effectively meets its commitments to the players, coaches and senior management through monthly clinical audits/reports and accurate documentation on Sports Office.
Actively contribute to the department research programme, including the design, collection and evaluation of department research.
To assist in departmental in-service training programs.
Assist in the production and maintenance of emergency action plans and department procedures under the direction of the Lead Physiotherapist (Girls & Women’s) and the Head of Academy medical services.

Person Specification:
Membership registration to relevant professional body such as BASRat, Society of Sports Therapists or Sports Massage Association.
Have sound scientific and practical knowledge of trigger point therapy, myofascial release/anatomy trains and/or other hands-on treatments.
Good knowledge of various bodywork methods and willingness to learn and teach in a holistic approach.
Managing own patient caseload.
Knowledge of pre-activation/prehab group and individual sessions.
