ROLE DESCRIPTION

Title: Sports Performance Intern Department: Sports PerformanceReports to: High-Performance ManagerMust show proof of academic credit. Position Summary: The Performance Intern supports the High-Performance Manager in their daily role of servicing the OCSC Academy teams. The Intern assists in the coordination of training and game activities with a special focus on the physical preparation, data analysis, nutrition and recovery of the players.Role Description:The role of the Performance Intern is to gain high performance knowledge and skills by assisting the preceptors in delivering service to support training and game activities. You will work alongside the High Performance Manager,, SC coaches, Head of Sport Science, athletic trainers, data scientists and physicians to support insights, professional care, performance development and prevention of athletic injuries.Duties Responsibilities:· Assist Sports Scientist in VALD testing.· Assist SC coaches with daily GPS protocols using Statsport.· Assist in management of return to play rehab (evaluations, testing, early to mid-stage rehabilitation, gym and grass progressions) under direct supervision.· Assist in daily preparation of all training activities.· Assist with game/practice hydration recovery shakes set-up.· Assist SC coaches with pre-activation, gym and recovery sessions.· Assist SC coaches with on grass conditioning sessions.· Assist with organizing, cleaning and sanitizing of the gym facilities.· Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the Cooler Room.· Assist with restocking and refilling of materials.· Assist with all staff in providing support for MLS NEXT Academy and MLS NEXT Pro Team (Orlando City B).· Other duties assigned. Supervision:The student will report directly to the High-Performance Manager. During the academic internship with Orlando City SC, it is the responsibility of the student to schedule times with a certified preceptor to complete any competencies and academic work.Policies and Procedures:· All tasks must be approved by a senior staff member. Decisions regarding reports, referrals or actionable insights are undertaken by a supervisor.· Information and communication in the training setting are privileged and are protected under HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act). Anything the student hears or sees in the facility regarding the patients’ condition, illness or injury is confidential and is not to be repeated or discussed with other patients, peers, coaches, parents, etc. Any time anyone other than the patient involved wants any information regarding the patients’ condition, illness or injury, the student must refer them to a senior member of staff.· The student is to report all problems involving coaches and/or athletes to the supervising preceptor immediately after the problem arises. The student is to avoid confrontation with coaches and athletes.· The student must attend a bloodborne pathogens and environmental hazards workshop annually to be eligible to provide athletic training services. The student must also continually be certified in Professional Rescuer CPR with AED, and advanced First Aid or equivalents by one of the following organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association.· The student must follow and familiarize themselves with the emergency action plan procedures that are posted in the training rooms and in this handbook.· As times and location of practice may vary and are subject to change, the student must be in the training facility during assigned times. The student is expected to be on time and not leave until all assigned duties are completed. Please give at least a weeks’ notice for any scheduled time off.
