As a key member of the Student Life Team, you be responsible for establishing, developing and leading our extra-curricular sporting offer at an institution with some impressive sporting pedigree and even bigger sporting ambitions!
The Sport Development Manager will establish, develop and lead a vibrant sport and physical activity programme. This activity will include working with elite athletes, overseeing our teams competing in British Universities and Colleges Sport leagues and creating “Give It a Go” and intramural sport that caters for a diverse range of students at all ability levels. They will also work with the Director of Student Life and a number of key stakeholders to help deliver and then manage our sporting facilities.
The successful candidate will have a strong pedigree in sport development and the drive, desire and vision to take forward our work in this vital area.
Whilst football is a key part of our sporting offer, this role will give the successful candidate the creative freedom and support to push their creativity, challenge convention and connect with a wide range of partners to build our sporting profile in a range of different sports.
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategically lead on the development of elite and competitive sport at UA92.
Lead on UA92’s work with BUCS ensuring our students and teams are successfully registered and, in a position, to succeed with the majority achieving promotion each year.
Ensure the effective management of any UA92 sport facilities located onsite or elsewhere including the line management of any staff.
Oversee the successful design and delivery of student-led sports programmes and events.
Develop, maintain and expand upon our partnerships with sports clubs, National Governing Bodies, and facilities.
Ensure there is effective recruitment, induction, training, and facilitation of volunteers and club captains.
Develop appropriate procedures and structures to ensure all UA92 sport teams have effective coaching, training, and travel arrangements in place.
Ensure effective management and oversight of all sport related budgets.
Organise and run group “Give-It-A-Go” session to encourage students to try new sports.
Work in partnership with the TASS co-ordinator to ensure all “Dual Career” athletes have the support they require.

The successful candidate will have:
Experience working in a similar role in an educational and/or sporting environment.
An understanding of university sport and the changing nature of the HE sector.
Experience of building and maintaining relationships with external sports clubs, NGB’s and leisure providers.
Proven experience of managing budgets effectively.
Proven experience of developing participative sport programmes across a range of sports and ability levels.
Experience of working with students in a sporting context.
The ability to build and nurture effective relationships with a large range of internal and external stakeholders across sport and physical activity.
The ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues.
The ability to coordinate and support sport volunteers.

Normal working hours are 37.5 per week. However, due to the nature of the post you will be expected to work flexibly including travelling as required. Consideration will be given to applications for part-time or flexible working, subject to business needs.
