ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Psychology - National Teams, this contractor role will support the Socceroos players and staff to achieve sustained optimal performance and wellbeing. The role will provide psychological expertise to support the ongoing development of mental performance skills and mental health of players and staff, and contribute to the continuing evolution of an exceptional high-performance environment.
The role will primarily be delivered during Socceroos camps, with minimal work outside of these times.
Please note that this contractor role is fixed term until 31 August 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with staff and coaches to complete a psychological needs assessment as required. Devise and implement a Socceroos Psychology Strategy that addresses target-areas for the current cycle
When required, provide player and staff education on psychological preparation for performance, performing under pressure, and other topics identified with the Head Coach, staff, and players
In consultation with the Team Doctor, provide assessments and evidenced based treatments for mental health and wellbeing issues. Provide case management and referral support as necessary.
Establish a process that benchmarks and builds players’ performance mindset skills
Support the delivery of the national teams’ mental health screening process for Socceroos players
Engage in a standardised psychology tournament review process

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience delivering high quality psychology services in high-performance team sports. Experience in football an advantage
Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality psychology services for mental health presentations, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
Sport psychology servicing experience as a lead at the national and international team level and at major competitions such as World Championships, Olympic Games is an advantage
Registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist (Sport and Exercise Psychologist endorsement would be an advantage)
Eligibility for full membership with the Australian Psychological Society or equivalent
Minimum of Masters Degree in Psychology. Masters Degree or PhD in Sport Psychology would be an advantage
Full working rights in Australia
Working with children check (paid/ employee) or state- based equivalent
Out of hours, weekend work and travel as required
