THE OPPORTUNITY

This position is committed to the promotion of player wellness and the safeguarding of minors while interacting with adults. Working with the Club’s Legal team, the Club’s General Manager & President of Soccer, and other technical staff, through education, training, and the establishment of best-practice frameworks, this position will: (1) design, develop, and implement minor safeguarding operations including providing strategic support to the Sounders FC Academy Program; (2) champion player wellness within player personnel; and (3) drive interdepartmental as well as external collaboration to ensure adherence to Club and League health and safety risk management standards including compliance related responsibilities.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To execute this position effectively, the Senior Manager will have the below experiential basis, core behaviors and characteristics and skills. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or expertise required to successfully execute this key role within the organization.

The Senior Manager is accomplished in engaging as a liaison on behalf of professional and minor players in the area of wellness support services, including conducting risk analyses, risk identification, and development of appropriate mitigating actions, plans, processes, procedures, and activities to support the overall health and wellbeing of player personnel
The Senior Manager is skilled in assisting a wide range of player personnel in acclimating to new living environments through the provision of transitional support services
The Senior Manager is adept at effectively and efficiently navigating fluid governance and compliance environments
The Senior Manager is skilled in ensuring cross-collaboration in managing risk in the area of health and safety requirements, including demonstrating a thorough knowledge, and understanding of U.S. Center for SafeSport initiatives, best-practices in health and wellness, and safety
The Senior Manager is experienced in program and project management implementation and delivery
The Senior Manager has expertise in working with minors and providing psychological, academic, financial, educational, life skills, nutrition, and safeguarding support services to a wide range of player personnel
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as lead point of contact and investigator for reporting of wellness concerns, including safeguarding issues and liaise with Club staff in addressing wellness issues
Provide quality and accessible counsel, advice, support, and guidance across the organization on wellness and safeguarding issues
Liaise with the police, local children's protective services and/or vulnerable adults services and the relevant soccer authorities where appropriate
Provide support at matches, clinics, tournaments, events, and other programs to ensure that wellness principles are applied consistently across the organization (including by traveling to the relevant programs)
Establish wellness program implementation plan and monitor progress against plan including the design, development, and implementation of policy guidance support materials
Produce quarterly reports and an annual review of the wellness and minor safeguarding program to Club leadership
Maintain accurate records in respect of training, screening, background checks and concern referrals and ensure all sensitive data and information is held securely and in accordance with data protection regulations
Coordinate the minor safeguarding training and education program and ensure staff education on the program
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 5+ years of relevant qualifications and training in Psychology, Education, and Social Work, including social care-related areas and/or safeguarding/child protection, 8+ years of relevant qualifications and training preferred.
Sports-related graduate or post-graduate qualifications or training with youth, high collegiate, or professional athletes preferred
The Senior Manager must demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and proper ethical behavior
The Senior Manager must demonstrate an ability to handle confidential information sensitively and with integrity
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals including minors
Knowledge of children's social and educational systems, contemporary safeguarding practice and legislation, government guidance, SafeSport and other policies and procedures regarding safeguarding minors
Working knowledge and understanding of inclusion, equality and anti-discrimination legislation, policy, and practice
Working knowledge of sports coaching principles and practice as it relates to performance pathways and community cohesion projects
Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques
Experience adapting to unpredictable circumstances, prioritizing responsibilities, assessing situations fairly and multi-tasking effectively
Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, high-performing work environment
Desire to participate in ongoing professional development in safeguarding, wellness, and care sectors
High level of resilience with the ability to be impartial and remain calm under difficult circumstances
Ability and willingness to travel
Spanish language proficiency is preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is an in-person position based at the Club’s current training facility in Tukwila, WA
Some evening and weekend work will be required, including all Sounders FC home matches
Employee must reside within Washington state upon date of hire
Employee must be able to facilitate own local travel
Must be fully vaccinated and boosted at the time of hire and follow all club and league COVID-19 protocols
Requires occasional lifting files or other items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity enough to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility enough to travel
