About the job
Job title: Referee Coach

Location: Remote with frequent travel


As PGMOL continues to grow, we are looking for Referee Coaches to join us on a part-time and full-time basis. These roles are pivotal to ensuring elite standard officiating is consistently achieved both on the domestic and international stage. As you coach, mentor and develop our Referees, you'll have an opportunity to work with a world-class team of experts. You’ll provide key support both at matches and behind the scenes, regularly reflecting on performance and providing action plans for the continued development of the officials you are working with.


These roles are remote, but you'll need to be able to regularly travel to matches and training meetings.


About you


We welcome people from a broad range of backgrounds and, ideally, you'll have:

Coaching experience within an elite environment or coaching experience that can be transferred from other industries
A keen interest in developing people
An enthusiastic and positive approach to coaching, demonstrating excellent communication skills
The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
The skills to work under direction as well as exercise initiative where appropriate
A full driving licence

Development Group Referee Coach

The Development Group Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to develop our high-potential Referees with the goal of reaching the elite level of the game. You can expect to:

Attend matches supported by a report in match review
Analyse clips submitted by match officials from games not attended by the coach
Undertake weekly performance reviews with designated match officials
Contribute to the planning and delivery of all training meetings which may be in person or online
Contribute to LMS material on a regular basis
Provide a weekly review of all KMIs in leagues associated with the Development Group
Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of football in both Men’s and Women’s pathway and at various levels from semi-professional to Premier League/WSL
Liaise with the Sports Scientists and Sports Psychologists to incorporate their advice in development action plans as appropriate
National Group Referee Coach

The National Group Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to help to develop the next generation of Referees. These referees operate with EFL Leagues 1 and 2. You can expect to:

Attend matches supported by a report in match review
Analyse clips submitted by match officials from games not attended by the coach
Undertake monthly performance reviews with designated match officials which may be carried out in the evening due to the match officials being workers
Contribute to the planning and delivery of training meetings which may be in person or online
Contribute to LMS material on a regular basis
Provide a weekly review of all KMIs in leagues associated to the specific level
Demonstrate knowledge of EFL Division 1 and 2
Liaise with the Sports Scientists and Sports Psychologists to incorporate their advice in development action plans as appropriate
Select Group 1 Referee Coach

The Select Group 1 Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to help to support elite-level Referees who operate in the Premier League. You can expect to:

Deliver in match and post-match debriefs and coaching analysis
Deliver whole team debriefs through analysis of clips and technical content
Produce post-match reports and targets to the refereeing and wider coaching team
Attend whole group meetings and deliver technical content throughout the season
Attend and contribute to weekly performance review meetings
Work closely with the performance support team to enhance and promote referee performance
Liaise with club representatives on match days and represent the PGMOL in a professional manner
Develop and talent ID match officials with potential to the FIFA referee list
Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Premier League football
Select Group 2 Referee Coach

The Select Group 2 Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to help to support elite-level Referees who work EFL Championship level. You can expect to:

Deliver in match and post-match debriefs and coaching analysis
Deliver whole team debriefs through analysis of clips and technical content
Produce post-match reports and targets to the refereeing and wider coaching team
Attend whole group meetings and deliver technical content throughout the season
Attend and contribute to weekly performance review meetings
Work closely with the performance support team to enhance and promote referee performance
Liaise with club representatives on match days and represent the PGMOL in a professional manner
Develop and talent ID match officials with potential to referee on the Premier League
Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of EFL Championship football
Select Group Women’s Professional Game Referee Coach

The Select Group Women’s Professional Game Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to help to develop the Referees who work in the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship. You can expect to:

Attend matches - it is envisaged that the 1W/2W Referee Coach will see all 1W/2W Referees regularly during the season
Provide coaching reports and summarising the performance of the 1W/2W Referees as required by SG WPG Director
Arrange individual Coaching Meetings with 1W/2W Referees where appropriate
Collaborate with the wider Select Group Women's Professional Game coaching group
Attend SG WPG training and other meetings as required, including participating in referee and other training events as appropriate
Actively assist in the planning, creation and delivery of varied and engaging training content in collaboration with the SG WPG Director, Technical Director, Coaching Director, Coaching team, Operations team, analysis department and sports science support staff
Liaise with the Sports Scientists and Sports Psychologists to incorporate their advice in development action plans as appropriate
Develop and talent ID referees with potential for the Premier League and FIFA list
Provide expertise to support the development of FIFA list Referees
Step 1 Referee Coach

The Step 1 Referee Coach is a fantastic opportunity to help to develop the next generation of Assistant Referees who work in the National League and Premier League 2 competitions. You can expect to:

Attend matches supported by a report in match review
Analyse clips submitted by match officials from games not attended by the coach
Undertake monthly performance reviews with designated match officials which may be carried out in the evening due to the match officials being workers
Contribute to the planning and delivery of training meetings which may be in person or online
Contribute to LMS material on a regular basis
Provide a weekly review of all KMIs in leagues associated to the specific level
Demonstrate knowledge of the National League
Liaise with the Sports Scientists and Sports Psychologists to incorporate their advice in development action plans as appropriate
