Job Title:                                                             Project Lead – Coach Development Playbook

Location:                                                             FAI HQ Abbotstown, Dublin 15

Direct Reporting Line To:                                 Head of Education and Development

Commencement Date:                                     ASAP

Duration:                                                             6 month Fixed Term Contract, Full time

Introduction :

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is the governing body for Association Football in the Republic of Ireland. The FAI has primary responsibility for all regulatory and footballing aspects of the game in Ireland.

Reporting to the Head of Education and Development the successful candidate will be involved in supporting and leading aspects of the FAI’s Coach Development Strategy. The role presents a real opportunity to support transformational change in coach development in Irish Football. This role will play an integral part in shaping the future of coach development in Ireland with the primary focus being the implementation of the key changes identified in the Football Pathways Plan (FPP) 2024.

The Position:

The person will be responsible for the design, development and creation of the FAI Playbook. They will lead a working group of stakeholders, internal and external in the development of a new approach to coaching across all levels of football in Ireland.

The person will assist us in re-thinking and redefining our approach to ‘development experiences’ for every individual throughout the playing pathway, from the moment they kick their first football, playing their first game to having a lifelong, active and rewarding involvement in the game whether ‘playing or participating’. Specifically the person will develop the FAI Playbook, starting with the 5-11 age range, we believe the focus should be on 3 key principles:

Play - focus on joy, enjoyment and children designing their own activity and challenges
Early engagement - focus on engaging (not specialising) children in football at the earliest age possible
Individual development - focus on individual skill development (skill acquisition) across technical skill, physical literacy, social and psychological development

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design of the FAI Playbook, creating the playbook which will focus on a more holistic approach to playing and coaching. The FAI Playbook will focus on coaching and the playbook will provide a modern, holistic approach to coaching, introducing our playing formats, coaching methods and focusing on the way we play, the way we coach, the formats we use, the types of practices we use when we are developing children, the types of interventions that we use, simply with the youngest children and how that potentially gets more complex as the children get older.
Lead the implementation of the FAI Playbook to ensure the digital readiness of the playbook in terms of the creation of an App and a Web Site.
The development of the grassroots coach development modules on the back of the FAI playbook around the following strategy areas, ‘Me and my Ball’, ‘Me and my Skills’, ‘Me and my team-mates’, Me and My Position’ and ‘Me and my Sport’
Integrate the ethos of lifelong learning, a modern holistic approach to coach development, through an expertise approach to coach development.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Key Skills and Experience

Essential:

Experience in developing coaching curriculum’s focusing on playing formats, types of practices, development experiences, relevant interventions and methodologies in a modern holistic coaching environment.
Experience in developing digital readiness in the design and delivery of an FAI Playbook App and Website.
Experience and understanding of the delivery of an expertise approach to coach development.
A deep understanding of best practice in coaching and development, including a broader understanding of best practice in football development and age / stage specific development.
A passion and motivation for the development of coaches and coaching in Ireland.
Leadership experience in leading a project team.
Experience of managing key relationship between internal and external stakeholders.
Proven decision making and problem-solving ability with experience in managing diverse teams.
Team Player, Talent Developer, and the ability to lead and inspire a team to success.
Energetic, and enthusiastic with excellent people, interpersonal and communication skills.
To be able to represent the FAI professionally and influence decisions with all stakeholders across the game.

Formal Coach Education Qualification
Undergraduate Education degree qualification or above
Experience in App Development – Sports Specific
