Supported by a team of over 130 full-time staff and over 200 volunteers, the independently governed and independently financed charity offers an extensive array of more than 60 programmes and initiatives that tackle a diverse range of social issues. These programmes cover areas such as health, employability, anti-social behaviour, crime, exploitation, education, dementia, and disability.  

Everton in the Community stands firmly beside the most at-risk and most in need members of its local communities, but the needs of the city are ever-growing and ever-evolving.  

Everton in the Community’s five-year strategy, the Trinity Project aims to bring transformational change to Liverpool 4 and beyond and will work to nurture confidence in others by creating opportunities that can profoundly change lives through three powerful pillars in Learns, Minds and Thrives.  

About the opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity for a Physical Activity Instructor to join our growing Everton in the Community team. 

As Physical Activity Instructor will be responsible for creating, delivering, and evaluating a timetable of activities that aim to reduce social isolation/loneliness, enhance wellbeing, and encourage residents to become more physically active.  

You will need to gain an understanding of the health challenges that exist within our Blue Mile (Wards of Anfield, Everton, Kirkdale and Walton), and co-create a variety of engaging sessions that meet people’s interests and health needs.  

We are seeking a fitness professional who is passionate about the health and wellbeing of others and is driven to make a difference to individuals living in the North Liverpool area. 

 Other key responsibilities will include:  

Coordinating and delivering a timetable of activities that have a clear focus on reducing social isolation/loneliness, enhancing wellbeing, and encouraging people to become more physically active 

Delivering physical activity sessions on existing neighbourhood initiatives including our Walking Football, Half Term Activity Camps, Starting Well and Stand Together projects 

Utilising EitC’s mental health facility (The People’s Place) to create and deliver a variety of new open-access physical activity sessions that meets the needs and interests of local people 

Use population data to target sessions around key groups who are at risk of experiencing poor health outcomes 

Building strong relationships with the local community to increase engagement levels on our Neighbourhood activity provision 

Ensuring that participants are supported holistically by signposting them to existing EitC projects, and support avenues when required 

Supporting across the wider Health Wellbeing team by delivering physical activity sessions and attending mass participation events when required. 


Who we are looking for:  Essentially, we are looking for an someone who has experience of delivering and adapting physical activity sessions to people from different ages, backgrounds and health status. 

We want someone who has a genuine passion for helping support people to improve their health and wellbeing and who has the ability to build trust and rapport quickly, enjoying interacting with a wide variety of people on a daily basis.  

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate patience, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude towards both colleagues and participants.  

Other key Knowledge and Skills will include: 

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (or equivalent). 

FA Level 1 / Introduction to Coaching Football  

The core hours for this role will be 35 hours per week, which does include evening and weekends on occasion – contract will be flexible across 7 days.
