ROLE DESCRIPTION

ROLE SUMMARY

The FAW is looking to recruit a Performance Analyst Lead.  The purpose of the role is to oversee and undertake effective performance analysis for the Cymru Women’s National Squad and to develop and implement best practice workflows as a model for analysts supporting Cymru intermediate age groups. The role will also contribute to the implementation of the Our Wales – High Performance Strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead all analysis support for the Cymru national squad including organisation and delegation of work to the dedicated support analyst and any other analyst or student when appropriate

Undertake opposition analysis for Cymru national squad and present in appropriate manner to coaches and players


Undertake post-match analysis for Cymru national squad and present in appropriate manner to coaches and players in line with Welsh Way Playing Philosophy and specific game plans


Lead on expanded support during major tournaments (opposition analysis & scouting)


Appropriately manage the databasing and archiving of Cymru national squad matches, training sessions, best practice library and supporting analysis work


Manage distribution of videos and information for Cymru national squad via online platform


Benchmark Cymru national squad performance against successful teams in line with FAW What It Takes To Win metrics


Maximise analysis support through research and awareness of contemporary practice and innovation in technology


Develop workflows and practice in line with FAW High Performance Strategy


Develop and maximise relationships with national squad coaches including proactively contributing to tactical game plans and long-term development of team playing style and philosophy


Develop and maximise relationships with key stakeholders eg UEFA, FIFA and other National Associations in order to share opposition footage and working practices


Develop contemporary resources for inclusion in training and education programmes for coaches and players


Manage and organise performance analysis equipment (hardware & software) for the Cymru national squad


Line-manage dedicated support squad analyst in line with FAW line-management protocols


Recruit & mentor individuals on the student placement scheme where appropriate


Undertake additional analysis support work across all programmes when required and as directed by the Head of Performance Analysis and Football Insights


Proactively undertake a programme of personal and professional development

Person Specification 

Qualifications

Required

Undergraduate degree in Performance Analysis or related subject

Desirable

Post-graduate degree in Performance Analysis or related subject


UEFA B Licence (or above)


​Professional accreditation as a performance analyst

Knowledge

Required

Comprehensive understanding of contemporary video analysis technology and software applications


Excellent understanding of contemporary coaching practice


Appropriate IT competencies (MacOS)

Desirable

Understanding of networking and streaming technology for real-time analysis


Understanding of databasing and visualisation tools and software


Understanding of UEFA match protocols and processes for analysis provision at international matches


​Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh

Experience

Required

Experienced in leading performance analysis support at the elite level in football, ideally within the Women's and Girls game.


Experienced in utilising video analysis software such as SBG Focus / Match Tracker, Angles, Sportscode, Nacsport or similar


Experienced in utilising annotation software such as RT Tactic, Coach Paint, Pierro, Klipdraw, Metrica or similar


Experience of working directly with coaches and players


Experienced in undertaking and presenting comprehensive opposition analysis


Experienced in gathering, analysing and visualising data as an integrated part of the analysis process


Experienced in line-management and / or mentoring of other analysts or students


Experienced in producing detailed, accurate work under strict time-constraints

Desirable

Experience of national squad camp environment


Experience of undertaking real-time ‘in-game’ analysis and providing suitable feedback and interventions during the game and at half-time


Experienced in dealing with UEFA Match Supervisors and organising filming / analysis positions at away fixtures (UK and abroad)


Experienced in building and developing databases and dashboard systems for analysis and benchmarking purposes


Experienced in creating analysis resources for coach education

Role Specific Information 

The post holder will be required to travel internationally on a regular basis


The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.


All employees must provide proof of right to work in the UK.


Spoken and written Welsh are desirable.
