^^^ USE THE LINK TO APPLY ^^^The Mental Health Counselor will oversee the mental health and well-being of Real Salt Lake's academy student-athlete population. The RSL Academy is a residential soccer academy that houses fifty student-athletes, who live full time in an on-site dormitory while attending an on-site public charter school. The student-athletes live and train on-site in an attempt to develop into soccer players that meet the standards for Real Salt Lake’s professional teams. A primary support for students, families, and staff, the Mental Health Counselor will oversee the Club's commitment to care for all student-athletes within its academy. Working closely with the Assistant General Manager, Academy Director, coaches, and families, Mental Health Counselor strives to build a positive environment and support the development of all student-athletes through education; best practices; and culturally responsive, data-informed prevention and intervention. The Mental Health Counselor makes regular reports and recommendations to the Assistant General Manager and Academy Director regarding student-athletes and families with whom they are working.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Engages in culturally relevant, psychologically appropriate, and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.Provides behavioral health interventions related to a variety of needs.Collaborates with student-athletes in discussing areas of difficulty, facilitating goalsetting and action plans.Counsels parents, coaches and staff to create restorative approaches to learning, behavioral, familial and social challengesUses quantitative and qualitative data to work with student-athletes, staff, administration and families to support student-athlete’s social, emotional, footballing and academic goals.Provides consultation to coaches and staff regarding psycho-social issues affecting student-athletes and general adolescent developmentHolds ethics and/or health workshops as needed as they relate to mental health topics and general character building Completes treatment plans and updates them every 6 months or as needed.Stays abreast of best practices in athlete and child mental health. Designs, promotes and implements programs and workshops to reinforce a positive, mentally safe learning environmentProvides leadership in crisis situationsCompletes notes and reports in a timely manner (within 72 hours of visit for notes).Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s degree in a mental health field2 or more years of clinical experienceAbility to work with a culturally diverse patient population and community.Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental dysfunctions, and counseling and guidance.Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.Possess excellent oral and written communication skillsSkill in interviewing and assessment.Ability to work well with othersPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in School Psychology or Clinical Psychology Current Utah licensurePreference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience working with adolescents.Spanish bi-lingual. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 5 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 10 pounds or exerting heavy force in a wide disparity or environmental conditions.
