TITLE Manager, Amateur Competitions 

REPORTS TO Director of Competitions and Events 

LOCATION 237 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, ON 


Reporting to the Director of Competitions and Events, the Manager, Amateur Competitions is responsible for the organisation of Canada Soccer’s premier amateur national competitions, ranging from National Championships to Masters, working with Canada Soccer Competitions Committee and the Local Organising Committees to deliver the events.


As part of the Event Management Unit, the Manager, Amateur Competitions will perform, but not restricted to, the following related tasks:

Organizes the National Championships, Player Development Program Championships, as well as Masters Competition and works closely with Local Organizing Committees (LOC) to ensure delivery standards are met
Manages the Futsal National Championships and on-site event delivery
Supports the competition requirements; maintains the competition regulations; coordinates all internal functional areas as it relates to staging of championships, liaises with participating clubs
Drafts and manages the approved competition related budgets;
Develops and finalizes schedules for all National Championships in accordance with the regulations
Organisation of site inspections for all national competitions;
Produces concepts of operations for LOC and reviews in detail the submission received in the lead up to a championship
Books all air travel for teams participating at the National Championships
Prepares the bidding procedures for all National Championships from bidding to selection
Develops content and leads workshops on National Championship education and readiness
Provides logistic services and support to all Canada Soccer programmes including accommodation, and transportation arrangements
Update event management handbook, regulations and associated documents for all National Championships on an ongoing basis
Supports the Annual Meeting of the Members in regard to venue operations, registration, transportation, AV and all meeting requirements;
Provides advice on Canada Soccer Sanctioning requirements for amateur club matches held in Canada and coordinates and approves team travel application forms
Provide support as required to visiting teams, match officials and others for International matches in addition to onsite support with volunteer management, catering, and operations
Staff liaison for the Competitions Committee
Manages event equipment inventory
Works with other community stakeholders to confirm technical packages for various events
Acts as Technical Lead for Soccer at the Canada Games
Supports other event department related activity on an ongoing basis
May be required to work weekends and extended hours during busy periods travel will be required
Respond to general public enquiries regarding upcoming events



University degree or college diploma in management and administration, recreation or a related discipline
A minimum of 3-5 yrs experience in sports administration
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated experience of working with and supporting volunteers
Demonstrates a high level of autonomy
Proof of a full valid driver’s license is required


Knowledge of the Canadian Soccer Structure Nationally and Provincially
Experience in developing and delivering content • Bilingualism would be considered an asset for this position
