Role description


Columbus Crew is searching for a Manager, Player Personnel to assist the club’s front office on analyzing and managing the club’s professional rosters. This individual will coordinate processes across departments, mainly Player Personnel, Scouting, Analytics and Soccer Information Systems. Within this role, the candidate should be prepared to consolidate scouting and analytics reports, organize and support efforts on the team’s salary cap and players’ contracts, assist on the roster strategy by providing insight and guidance to leadership and other stakeholders.

The position is based in Columbus, Ohio and requires occasional travel. The position reports directly to the AGM, while working closely with the club’s Analytics and Scouting departments.                                        


Research and analyze statistical data for the department, and provide findings through reports and presentations.

Create a database of projects for the department and keep it updated through an Action Tracking Report.

Implement processes to ensure comprehensive, robust and reliable information is used for decision making.

Assist in department strategy planning, including implementation of on-field and off-field matters, and player acquisition strategies.

Creation of reports, shortlists and presentation using analytics, while closely working with the Analytics department to ensure that processed and communication are optimized.

Coordinate scouting processes in the collection and organization of information on potential players.

Establish recruitment strategies and efforts to bring new players to the club.

Provide assistance with the preparation of roster strategy meetings and all MLS drafts.

Manage the interaction and synergy between departments linked to player acquisition (Player Personnel, Scouting, Analytics and Soccer Information Systems)

Interpret MLS Roster and Budget Guidelines.

Assist AGM and President & General Manager in the administration of player transfers and contracts.

Other Duties as assigned by AGM, and President & General Manager.


Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred or equivalent experience.

Experience working in a professional soccer environment is preferred.

Strong knowledge of Major League Soccer, other American soccer leagues and leagues worldwide.

Any soccer specific coaching licenses would be viewed as an asset. Past sport experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge and experience with platforms such as Wyscout, Opta, StatsBomb, Second Spectrum, Opta and other similar products.

Proficient in MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as visualization and database products.

Web developing skills, and knowledge of coding languages preferred.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage many projects.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others who have varying levels of data analysis knowledge and experience.

Driven work ethic and ability to work with minimal functional guidance. Approach their role with sound decision making.

Collaborative, high level of personal values and integrity, industrious and ambitious individual.

There will be a requirement to work nights, weekends, holidays and travel will be consistent throughout the role.
