Role description
To lead age groups/ multidisciplinary department within the Youth Development Phase
Coaching delivery:
Provide appropriate coaching and self-help tools to learn the basic skills and develop the fundamental techniques that are needed for the academy players to reach their full potential.
Plans and implements a technical programme and coaching syllabus, while using an innovative and creative approach to the development of Academy players aged 13-16.
Manage and monitor part time coaches within the phase through the coaching and technical development process.
Organise and deliver coaches meetings aligned to blocks of coaching programme
Attend and supervise all coaching sessions and fixtures/ games programme as stipulated by the Academy Manager/Head of Coaching.
Identify and implement short term, medium term and long term goals for each individual in assigned age groups at the Academy alongside relevant multidisciplinary staff.
Promote the Academy and Clubs ‘Football Culture and Philosophy’ through professional conduct and instilling the same approach in all academy players.
Manage the school/ day release programme for YDP players and the responsibilities that come with bringing students out from school two afternoons a week.
Talent ID:
Assess the development of the players and consider how this may affect performance and talent Identification processes.
Liaise with recruitment staff regarding talent identification and the developmental needs of players in these age groups
Communicate with parents and the Head of Academy Recruitment and Head of Coaching during this process.
Develop a link with WAFC Community scheme to ensure players within their programme get opportunity to have trials with the Academy.
Administration:
Ensure all paperwork, session plans and registers are up to date and the monitoring and review of player attendance and progress is accurate and reported as required.
Ensure all players and parents are informed of details regarding training and/or any other activities planned and appropriate risk assessments and safeguarding provisions are in place.
Act as main point of contact for players parents in your age groups regarding any queries on the coaching/ games programme and activities.
Check and maintain football equipment for your Academy age groups.
Timetable holidays, holiday programmes and season start and end dates (including any key event dates) for assigned Academy age groups.
Arrange and organise core and additional games programme for age groups including scheduled games programme and additional midweek and weekend games.
Disseminate above communication to relevant internal departments.
Feedback Review:
Develop an appropriate review and feedback process to part time coaches.
Alongside relevant heads of department, develops an appropriate recruitment, review and feedback process for part time support staff working within the sports science and medical department within own age groups.
Log all sessions on PMA, 6 week reviews, half and full season reports and player ILPs.
Input data where required with relation to national benchmarking and effective measurement with the ‘Online PMA’; incurring match reports and grades.
Deliver individual player reviews in accordance with Academy review protocol and in coordination with relevant phase staff.
Attend coaches meetings as set out by the Academy Manager/Head of Coaching.
Qualifications:
UEFA A qualification.
FA Emergency Aid (EFAiF as required by the F.A).
The FA Youth Advanced Award FA Module Awards or willingness to work towards.
FA Child Protection or willingness to work towards.
Experience:
Demonstrable experience of providing appropriate coaching and self-help tools in a sports environment to improve performance and achieve success.
A proven track record of successfully managing and developing a team.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the latest best practice in the development of players
Commitment to continuing professional development.
Knowledge of the requirements and process for signing players (e.g. trial periods, when to sign/release).
