About the RoleMelbourne City FC has a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and accomplished sports scientist to make a significant contribution to our elite performance outcomes, as our A-League Men (ALM) - Lead Sports Scientist.
This is a full-time role where the postholder, whilst working closely with the coaching and human performance teams, is responsible for the delivery of the Club sports science and football conditioning practices to our ALM players.
Some of your key responsibilities include:-
1. Delivery of the Sport Science and football conditioning program at Melbourne City FC, to include: Lead a high performing and sustainable servicing model, that delivers Sport Science advice and training, against the strategic brief of Melbourne City Football club. Ensure delivery of high standards of support for men team coaches and performance staff for the above demands through regular: planning and prescription of training and development programs, observation and performance tracking and reviews of performance outcomes. Input into the sessions planning for the ALM team training, individual player development and preparation for competition. Provide written and oral status reports. Game day coverage including travel or stadium preparation, team and individual warmups and monitoring of physical condition throughout matches. Various monitoring of all ALM player health and performance data and associated advice relative to conditioning and recovery of mental and physical health.
2. Integrate Sport Science as part of the Melbourne City FC Football Management team and build a holisticview of football performance, to include: Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the Human Performance department which includes close links to all areas of the club. Ensure continued development of the SS/SC coaching practice. Provide clear and updated reports on player status in real time to appropriate members of the football management team. Participate in and contribute to the daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning of training and development work for all players.
3. Delivery of a high-performance environment that maximises the potential of every player, to include: Deliver best practice Sport Science and football conditioning support which aligns with the City Football methodology to both the ALM team as well as the Academy players. Support the programming for the Academy by engaging with Academy performance staff to ensure the delivery of exercise and sport science programs and training sessions designed to enhance the physical and physiological capacities of all players. Delivery of functional movement training, on-pitch speed training, align to the conditioning of the athletes with the gym program and injury prevention sessions. Monitor and evaluate the impact of player development and performance related strategies on the status of all ALM players. To create relationships with players and support their physical development needs. Understanding and regular review of all player data, to allow for appropriate analysis of sessions andstrategic planning of programs based on sound player management. This will include education and case review for individual players. Finding relative solutions to the performance needs of team and individual players from within the City Football Group network.

What We Need From You Minimum 5 years experience in a similar elite sporting environment. Holder of relevant tertiary education. Registration with ESSA as Sport Scientist or ASCA as level 2 Strength and Conditioning coach Highly self-motivated with the ability to motivate others. Enthusiasm and willingness to be flexible in approach to achieve desired outcomes. Planning to achieve around fixed deadlines, and problem-solving skills to ensure priorities are met; Possessing communication skills that are clear, engaging and responsive. Have facilitation skills, including the ability to manage and resolve tensions, disputes and conflicts. Customer service mindset with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Proactive and engaging style. Current First Aid Certificate including CPR (desired, not essential).
Essential Driver Licence. Current Victorian Working With Children Check (or willing to apply). Current National Police Check (or willing to apply).
