Technical Director

Position Title: Technical Director

Reports to: General Manager and Board of Directors

Position status: Full Time

Background: Founded in 2004, Kingston United Soccer Club is a non-profit organization whose

mission is to provide organized recreational, grassroots, competitive and high performance OPDL

soccer in a safe and healthy environment. The club fosters the values and ethics of fair play and

respect for others in all club activities. Through the ongoing encouragement, skill development, and

training of players, coaches, and officials, the club provides the opportunity for everyone to achieve

their potential and works to instill a lifelong passion for the game of soccer. The club provides

programming in Kingston and has approximately 2000 house league, grassroots, competitive and high

performance OPDL youth players. As a National Youth Club License holder since 2020, the club strives

to meet the highest standards for youth soccer in all respects.

Position Summary: The Club Technical Director is a full-time position responsible for the

management and implementation of all technical programs within the club consistent with Canada

Soccer’s direction for National Youth Clubs. This includes, Coach Development, Match Official

Development and Player Development programs and management. The position provides leadership

and guidance for the ongoing implementation of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) within the

club. The role will require working outside of traditional working hours and will require weeknight and

weekend work.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership, communication and direction to all club coaches, match officials,
executives and parents within the club.

Create, implement and manage the budget for all club technical programs.
Manage the implementation of a four corner, stage specific player development curriculum.
Recruitment, retention, mentorship and development programs for all coaches in recreational,
development and soccer for life programs.

Manage the preparation of club coaches for licensing programs.
Work with the Club Head Referee in the creation of match official development programs.

Analyse and assess coaching and match official performance and develop individual development

Professional representation of the club at District, Provincial and National Association meetings,
workshops and conferences. Monitor compliance of the clubs programs and player and coach development curriculum with OSA’s
LTPD guidelines and Canada Soccer’s requirements for holders of the National Youth Club License.

Establish partnerships with elementary and high schools in the community and provide soccer
programs for player, match official and coach education.

Competencies and Skills Required

A thorough understanding of soccer competition and how it relates to optimal player development.
A well-developed knowledge of the four corner development model and how it can be applied in a
soccer environment.

Several years’ experience in creating and managing technical budgets and reporting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships.
Excellent knowledge of CSA/OSA Long Term Player Development
Ability to problem solve and manage conflict situations with a diplomatic approach.
Well-developed skills in creating exciting, engaging presentations and public speaking.
Experienced in time management and project management skills.
A passion for education and ongoing development of all Technical staff, match officials and coaches
Professional Designations and Qualifications

Canada Youth Licence
OSA Club Technical Director Diploma and OSA Learning Facilitator
Canada Child Licence and National B or A Licences would be considered assets
University degree or a college diploma in a related field is an asset .
Valid and current Ontario drivers licence
Experienced in time management and project management skills.
Experience and Knowledge

A minimum of 5 years’ exposure coaching in a high performance and/or grassroots development
A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Volunteers and Board of Directors.
2 years of experience using various software and video analysis tools and equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge of LTPD.

Knowledge of National standards in Coach Education and player development.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the creation and delivery of coach, parent, match official and
player development programs.
5 years’ experience in the management of staff and volunteers.
Working conditions

The position is full time with varying hours of work depending on the Club’s requirements. As part of
the senior management team, the TD is expected to allocate their time according to the needs of the
The TD is expected to optimize their time in and outside of the office to be of maximum benefit to the
Club Stakeholders; specifically work in the evening and on weekends is to be anticipated.
The TD must be eligible to work in Canada.
