JOB TITLE: Head of Rehabilitation
REPORTING TO: Performance Director
DEPARTMENT: Sporting
LOCATION: Orangeburg, NY
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Head of Rehabilitation will be the lead for the Return-To-Play programming for all injured players, the diagnosis of injuries occurring as the result of the training for and playing of games. Specifically, the detailing of plans for rehabilitation of injury and reintegration to full training and competitive match play for a variety of injuries. This includes directing the peri-operative care for players requiring surgery following injury. Importantly, this role is considered a leadership position within the Human Performance Department and, as such, the Head of Rehabilitation will be responsible for guiding and informing all staff on matters regarding players currently in the Return-To-Play program and their expected progression and development during that time.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Working in collaboration with the Medical Staff and under the supervision of the Performance Director and Chief Medical Officer, the Head of Rehabilitation will:
Lead the development of comprehensive plans for each athlete’s return to play program throughout the rehab process, outlining the goals of each stage, evaluating progress using objective data to demonstrate that they were achieved and at what time.
Lead the creation, maintenance, documentation, and updating of standard rehabilitation protocols for the injuries typically encountered by soccer athletes.
Lead on field and gym-based rehabilitation workouts and collaborate with Performance and Athletic Training staff to develop late stage return to play workouts in both settings.
Provide daily injury updates to the Performance Director, Head Coach and other performance and management staff.
Provide injury reports after each game.
Conduct game day assessment of injured players once they have been ruled out of further participation by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Coordinate sports medicine special projects pertaining to injury risk mitigation and performance medicine.
Provide daily communication of squad readiness and injury updates to the coaching staff, management, and medical/performance department, including leading and facilitating weekly Return-To-Play meetings with the Human Performance staff.
Coordinate daily player treatment schedule based on screening priorities.
Serve as the primary liaison with Montefiore subspecialties to develop rehabilitation protocols and progressions appropriate to the specific surgical and sports medicine procedures that the players may undergo.
Develop multidisciplinary injury prevention strategies and educate medical and performance staff on comprehensive application and execution of these strategies, including the facilitation of weekly meetings focused on the learnings and activities of the Return-To-Play program.
Communicate and collaborate with the medical staffs for NYCFC II and the Academy to coordinate long term rehabilitation practices for players in the Elite Talent Program.
Mentor medical staff, Physical Therapists, Soft Tissue Therapist (s), Medical Interns, and volunteers, throughout the organization and ensure consistency in practices between 1st team, NYCFCII, and Academy.
Ensure the maintenance of the training room and clinic area as a safe, clean, and organized environment.
Electronically document accurate first report of injury, physician diagnosis, Player assessments, Player treatments, and return to play dates.
Compile reports as required by the League
WHO YOU ARE:
Certain professional criteria must be met to be eligible for the role. These include:
Master of Physical Therapy (Doctor of Physical Therapy or PhD preferred)
Licensed and registered to work as a physical therapist in the USA (American Physical Therapy Association)
Licensed and registered to work as a physical therapist in the State of New York.
3+ years' experience working with elite (collegiate or professional) athletes.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Additionally certified as a CSCS, PES, LMT, and/or NREMT.
Has soccer experience.
Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must be able to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided to applicants by New York City FC
Must be able to work games scheduled which may be at night and on weekends and holidays
COMPENSATION:
This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary range of $100,000 to $110,000. Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise.
