Tenby Schools Setia Eco Gardens opened its doors in 2013 and is part of ISP’s dynamic network of schools across the globe. Tenby Schools Setia Eco Gardens is comprised of Tenby International School Setia Eco Gardens which offers a British education up to the IGCSE level, and Sekolah Tenby Setia Eco Gardens which offers the Malaysian National Curriculum at the Secondary level. The school caters to students aged 3 to 17 years from around the world. The school is focused on the holistic development of the students who attend to become global citizens who have the skills and confidence to compete globally.

Our campus is designed to support a diverse range of co-curricular activities including the arts, sports, and other intellectually stimulating activities.   Whilst our schools are recognised for excellent academic achievements, we understand that effective learning is more than just academic achievement. We hold firmly to nurturing the whole person and meeting our students’ physical, mental, and emotional needs to develop valuable life skills for success.

ISP in Malaysia

ISP operates Asia Pacific Schools, Straits International Schools and Tenby Schools where we are strategically located covering the Klang Valley, Perak, Penang and Johor within Malaysia. Our experience in educational excellence helps us provide amazing learning experiences for students as young as 3 years up to 18 years old.  The nine (9) ISP schools in Malaysia follow the international school curriculum comprising IGCSE and A-levels, starting at the kindergarten level, while five (5) of the schools also offer the Malaysian National Curriculum.  While the national and international schools and classrooms are separated, facilities and non-curricular activities are shared between the schools.  With over 8,000 students, we have a 60-year history in the country providing education to students and have gained a reputation for excellence and high standards in education.

Purpose of Role

This role is a pivotal one at Tenby Setia Eco Gardens. We need someone who will be a champion of Physical Education and Sports for our whole campus. They will ensure all students receive an outstanding PE education and access a wide range of different co-curricular, extra-curricular and competitive sports activities which are inclusive, progressive and suitable for a range of different interests and skills.

This person will oversee a single team of PE teachers who will deliver PE and sports across our four campus schools (International – Primary and Secondary; National – Primary and Secondary). In addition, they will have a part-time commitment to teaching our iGCSE students. They will also have overall responsibility for the safe and effective use of all sporting facilities on site, maximising available resources to promote positive and amazing learning for all students.

ISP Head of PE & Sports Key Responsibilities

Safety & Safeguarding: 

To prioritise at all times the safety and wellbeing of all students in line with Tenby Setia Eco Gardens’ commitment to safeguarding.
To carry out appropriate risk assessments and other safety activities to ensure that all PE and sports activities carried out on campus are appropriate and safe for all students, staff and other stakeholders.
To oversee the PE and sports facilities on campus, including the swimming pools, and liaise with our Facilities Team to make sure they are kept safe and in good general order.
To prepare department documentation relating to safety and safeguarding including the PE Handbook, risk assessments, PE policies and guidance on the safe use of equipment.
To ensure that all PE staff understand their roles in the safe teaching of PE and delivery of sports activities.
To oversee the preparation of risk assessments and other documentation for off-site activities and fixtures.

Curriculum Development & Delivery: 

To develop and implement a comprehensive and progressive PE curriculum for students aged from 3-16 based on the UK National Curriculum and the iGCSE qualification.
To quality assure the delivery of International and National Curricula by the members of the PE team.
To quality assure any curricula offered by external providers.

Leadership in Teaching & Learning (in addition to the duties & responsibilities of a qualified teacher): 

To lead a team of PE teachers working in our International and National Schools.
To ensure all teaching & learning aligns with best international practice in PE & sports.
To carry out all duties of an International Secondary Head of Department.
To act as a role model for PE teachers in the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, offering them support, coaching and professional development.
To quality assure delivery of teaching & learning by external coaches (e.g swimming coaches).
To give appropriate support and development opportunities to gifted and talented young athletes in school.

Team Leadership: 

To provide strong leadership to a team of International and National PE teachers, fostering a collaborative and innovative teaching environment.
To conduct regular professional development sessions to help the PE teaching staff grow their knowledge and skills.
To carry out performance management including appraisals for all members of the PE team.

Co-curricular clubs, extra-curricular sports & competition: 

To design and manage an engaging and impactful programme of co-curricular sports clubs (including external provision), extra-curricular sports and activities and a range of competitions, catering to all ages, interests and skill levels.
To quality assure any co-curricular sports club led by an external provider.
To effectively lead the PE team in preparing and training school teams for district, regional, national and international competitions as well as those organised by school networks such as AIMS (Association of International Malaysian Schools).
To prepare, plan and execute a programme of sporting fixtures throughout the school year such that as many of our students as possible have ample opportunities to participate in a wide variety of competitions and activities both in school and against other schools.

Wellbeing & Character: 

To foster a culture of sporting behaviour, fair play, teamwork, resilience and other positive personal qualities and values amongst Tenby students.
To lead the PE team in organising activities which promote wellbeing for our students.
To educate our students in healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

Resources & Equipment 

To monitor and control the PE & Sports budget.
To manage the campus PE & Sports resources and equipment, ensuring that students have everything required for their PE lessons and sporting activities.
Ensure that all resources and equipment are well-maintained in safe condition and that stock are regularly replenished as needed.

Partnership with Parents & Carers: 

Ensure positive communication and partnership between school, parents, and the community.
Keep parents and other stakeholders well-informed as to all PE and sports-related activities involving the students.
Organize and participate in events that showcase students' achievements in physical education and sports.

Campus House Programme: 

To lead the Campus House Programme, promoting a sense of belonging, camaraderie and healthy competition amongst students.
To organise and oversee inter-house sports competitions, events and activities.
To collaborate with other departments to integrate the Campus House Programme into the broader school curriculum and wider experiences.

Internal & External Marketing: 

To promote our PE & Sports offer within the school community to encourage pupil interest and participation.
To contribute to the positive promotion and marketing of the school in the local and wider community.
To contribute to marketing of the school, school events and successes including use of assemblies, yearbook, social media, attendance/participation in Open Days, PE newsletter and other activities.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

An appropriate degree and teaching qualification e.g. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or degree in Physical Education plus PGCE.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
At least five (5) years of experience in PE & Sports teaching and leadership.
Experience of teaching PE iGCSE with demonstrably strong pupil outcomes.
Professional development concerning school leadership e.g. NPQSL.
