Role Specific Responsibilities

• Lead the clinical management of the playing squad for illness and injuries
• Lead the clinical preparation of the playing squad on both training and match days (home and away)
• Lead pitch side emergency first aid on both training and match days and ensure EAPs are in date and in-line with club protocols
• Standardise pre-injury assessment tools for objective monitoring during rehabilitation and as return to play markers for the management of musculoskeletal related injuries
• Design and deliver injury rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries (including gym-based exercise prescription, outside rehabilitation and hydrotherapy etc.)
• Organise and deliver pre-signing medicals in accordance with club protocols
• Deliver the EFL/FAs standardised protocols for concussion assessment and management using both paper and computerised tools
• Maintain a comprehensive database of note-keeping in accordance with professional standards requirements
• Provide a multidisciplinary approach to medical care, building professional relationships to those specialities both within the club and externally
• Maintain close relationships with other clubs, medicial staff particularly when dealing with loan players
• Attend multidisciplinary meetings and provide reports to hierarchy when requested
• Provide a first contact lead role for all injuries and illnesses, referring on to the club doctor when appropriate.
• Monitor and order medical supplies from externally sourced companies
• Execute additional tasks as required to meet the changing priorities of the medical department, first team and the club
• Maintenance of the FAs anti-doping whereabouts system
• Maintain a comprehensive injury audit and partake in the FAs injury surveillance report
• Adherence to medical and insurance budgets set by the club
• Provide indirect supervision, support and delegate tasks to medical staff within the department to ensure a high standard of care to first team players
• Partake in the clubs appraisal process for the department
• Provide CPD support for staff within the department
• Provide support and an advisory role for Barnsley FC Women’s team medical staff
• This job description is not intended to be exhaustive, and the post holder is also required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the lead physiotherapist or any other senior leader/director within the club, appropriate to the level of the post

Area of Expertise Essential Desirable

Experience • A minimum of five years postgraduate experience in sport

• Experience of working in a first team elite sporting environment (preferably football) • Experience of leading a department

• Experience of managing staff

Qualifications and Professional Accreditation • HCPC/CSP registered physiotherapist

• FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF) Certificate, or equivalent • Completed or working towards a postgraduate qualification in Physiotherapy or Sports Medicine related

• Child Protection/ Safeguarding certificate
Specific Skills and Knowledge • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Able to work as both a team and individually

• Creative and proactive approach to problem-solving • IT skills, including the ability to manage and work with data and associated systems (e.g. Excel and Catapult electronic database systems or equivalent)
