Job Purpose
An exciting opportunity to join the leadership team of the charitable foundation of a dynamic Premier League football club. Palace for Life Foundation uses the power of the Crystal Palace FC and Premier League brand to help young people grow through sport.
As the Foundation’s Head of Football Development and Primary Education, you will be responsible for directing two key areas of our work: our commercial Football Development programmes, including Soccer School, Player Development Centres and After School Clubs for boys and girls, and our education programmes in primary schools including school PE contracts, our Team Mates mental health intervention and our flagship Premier League Primary Stars.
This is a varied role which requires a leader with a range of skill-sets: from commercial and marketing acumen and an understanding of the primary education sector through to a hands-on expertise in using the power of football and sport to change lives. Your goal will be to deliver a healthy financial surplus from our commercial activities to be reinvested in our charitable work, to forge ever closer relationships with local primary schools and to ensure our school interventions are delivered to the highest standard, making a tangible difference to young people’s lives.
Job Summary
You will lead a department delivering portfolio of activities supporting young people both in and out of school, including:
PE and After School Clubs- Delivering income-generating PE and after school club programmes, engaging children aged 5-11 through physical activity.
Premier League Primary Stars- Inspiring primary aged children and teachers through a range of workshops, competitions, PE support and social action projects.
Team Mates & Stepping Stones- Early intervention programmes for children who require additional support in their emotional literacy and resilience, promoting positive mental health, supporting the transition from Primary to Secondary School.
Girls Football- Engaging novice primary-aged girls in fun football sessions hosted at schools and weekend hubs.
Player Development Centres- Weekly invite only tiered training centres for boys and girls aged 6-16 at centres across Bromley and Croydon, with a pathway to the Crystal Palace FC and Crystal Palace FC Women's’ Academy
Soccer Schools- Football courses for 7-13 year olds running during each school holiday period at venues across Bromley and Croydon, including Girls only, Goalkeeper and PDC invite only courses.
College Academies- Franchise based College programmes for 16-18 year olds run by partners, representing Crystal Palace FC in FA leagues
Your multi-faceted job role will include:
Directly line managing and developing a team of four managers/co-ordinators, and overseeing a wider department of around 12 full-time staff plus a pool of sessional coaches
Ensuring all activities adhere to the highest levels of child safeguarding and risk management
Engaging with all sections of the community and ensure our programmes reach those most in need
Engaging with key partners including the Crystal Palace FC Academy, local venues and grassroot teams
Forging strategic partnerships with all schools across the area
Ensuring your programmes are presented to the highest standard on our website and booking system
Local marketing campaigns to grow participation in our commercial programmes
Securing new external grant funding to grow our charitable schools programmes
Managing relationships with funders, including the Premier League
Creating and managing contracts with schools and college partners
Report writing
Strategic planning
Project management and event management
Showcasing the impact of our work with case studies and statistical measures
Liaising closely with colleagues within the Foundation and counterparts at other Club Community Organisations in sharing of good practice and cross working together.
Reporting to the CEO and Board of Trustees on the achievement of a series of key performance indicators, presenting updates at quarterly Board meetings.

Job Requirements
Sound knowledge and experience of Football Development, either through coaching or managing a similar programme,
Sound knowledge of the role of sport in primary school education
Knowledge of safeguarding reporting processes and procedures
Proven leadership skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide staff with clear instructions to enable them to achieve desired outcomes and meet the required standards
Delivering and/or leading football development or similar programmes
Delivering programmes in primary school settings
Managing multi-level teams including full time and sessional staff
Excellent communication/presentation skills both written and verbal
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Report writing
Setting, monitoring and analysing budgets
Microsoft Excel to an intermediate or advanced level
Monitoring and evaluation of programmes
Ability to manage partnerships effectively so external partners are highly satisfied with our work.
Contract negotiations
A willingness to work flexible hours including some evening and weekends
Positive attitude with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
Flexible, “can do” attitude
Knowledge of the football pyramid and Academy player pathways
Understanding of effective quality assurance processes
Understanding of the south London environment and the pressures young people face
Experience of managing multiple programme budgets
Knowledge of CRM and booking system(s)
Creating successful promotional recruitment campaigns
Possess football coaching qualifications /other relevant experience in a football development environment.
Recruiting and retaining a team of coaches
Existing enhanced DBS check
