Head of Academy Recruitment [U7 – U21]

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced talent identifier to join Wigan Athletic Academy on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will be part of the Academy Management Team and be involved in implementing the direction and strategic plan for talent identification and recruitment into the academy.
This is a permanent contract working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days over 7 to include evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays, predominately based at Stadium Way Academy.
The role expectations are:
To ensure a clear strategy for the recruitment of players of all ages.
To manage the operation of the club’s youth recruitment strategy, both locally and nationally in line with EFL rules & regulations.
To actively work as part of the current structure to recruit players of all ages and phases.
To coordinate the work of all scouts locally and nationally.
To develop, build and manage relationships with the Community Trust, local clubs and schools.
To work in conjunction with Head of Local Recruitment, Foundation Phase coaches and Pre-Academy Co-Ordinator to ensure an effective programme for pre-registered academy players U6-U8.
To liaise with members of staff at the academy to ensure all trialists are managed effectively when attending the academy.
To ensure all trialists and parents receive a formal induction meeting and sign the necessary paperwork and information.
To provide appropriate feedback to all trialists and parents.
Work closely with the First Team Head of Player Recruitment and liaise with the Academy Manager with the identification and signing of players within the PDP.
To liaise with the Head of Education & Welfare and Player Care Support, to ensure trialists in need of accommodation are provided for and their wellbeing needs are met.
To manage the recruitment budget within the agreed parameters.
Continually monitor the performance of the Academy scouting department.
Attend Academy meetings, whilst also implementing both departmental meetings and in-service training for scouts.
To ensure all scouts receive appropriate training (minimum of 3 CPD events per season) and a formal induction pack in line with the Recruitment Strategy of the Academy.
To maintain relevant qualifications of all scouts including the FA Talent Identification Course
To ensure all scout activity plans are updated on a weekly basis.
To maintain and update all relevant policies related to recruitment and scouting.
To maintain and update the Performance Management Application and all other relevant database, Apps and programmes to ensure players are monitored, tracked and reported on.
To ensure the Academy Performance Plan underpins the work of the department.
The successful candidate will have:
Talent ID Level 3
FA Safeguarding certificate
Full driving licence and access to transport
Previous experience of talent ID, recruitment, and development within the professional game [experience of working within EPPP and Category 1, 2 and 3 Academies desirable]
Previous experience of scouting, analysis and selection criteria
