Football Australia (FA) is the national governing body for football in Australia, situated on the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Football Australia took transformative steps in 2020 and released its ‘XI Principles - for the future of Australian football’, which advances eleven principles that underpin a bold and innovate 15-year vision and new strategic agenda for Australian football.

Reporting to the Senior Manager - Government Relations, this Sydney-based role will ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Government Relations Function within Football Australia and across designated geographical territories.

There are two key aspects to this role. One is the ability to foster strong relations with peers within all levels of government and Football Australia’s nine Member Federations, therefore delivering effective outcomes for Football Australia, and the second being, demonstrated ability and competence to support the administrative functions of Football Australia’s Government Relations Activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation of briefs and political profiles ahead of meetings
Collate and develop and distribute government relations written products – examples include letters, briefs, proposals
Organise meetings, acting as connection between Football Australia staff, including CEO’s office, and political/departmental staff with Government offices
Organize weekly GR team meetings and send out notes and action items for the week
Develop utilising Football Australia current resourcing a relationship management tool to collect, collate, record and manage interactions with current and potential future contacts
Perform data analyses to support reporting and decision-making and prepare reports and talking points for working groups
Monitor issues and potential regulations impacting Football Australia
Establish effective working relationships and collaborate with peers in Government offices and member Federations to advance Football Australia programs and strategies
In collaboration with the Communications Team, develop and manage regular campaign communications and distribution networks in rolling out campaigns as required
Distribution of relevant media releases to government relations mailing lists
Monitor all funding opportunities across federal and state governments and advise appropriate FA staff/Member Federations of actions and or requirements
Work with other ‘Football’ staff, both internally and externally, to execute GR team meetings and logistics

Experience and skills required:

2-3 years’ experience in Government or local council offices
Previous experience lobbying within Governments
Previous experience working with Government on policy development (desirable not essential)
Exceptional research, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstratable strong Microsoft Office skills
Proven ability to work effectively with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders
Highly organized and detail oriented
Self-motivated, intuitive problem solver
Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills
Remains positive and productive in high pressure and stressful situations
Demonstrates critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills

Grant writing experience
Microsoft Dynamics experience
Flexibility to travel – international, intrastate and interstate
Weekend and evening work will be required on a regular basis
A valid paid/employee Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one
