ROLE DESCRIPTION

A-LEAGUE WOMEN’S ASSISTANT COACH
Purpose: To assist the ALW Head Coach in the leadership, analyses and management of the ALW team’s training and games and games of the opposition to ensure the team’s successful participation in the A-League Women’s League and the Club’s successful engagement with the community and grassroots football. As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, the ALW Assistant Coach will assist the ALW Head Coach in overseeing and executing the clubs football programme for female players.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Wellington Phoenix Board’s long-term vision of building a financially self-sustaining club that upholds the highest standards of football excellence on the field and maintains optimal corporate governance off the field.

In line with the club’s mission, the ALW Assistant Coach will actively contribute to fostering a football culture where talent is developed and nurtured within a framework of excellence. On the field, the objective is to implement strategies that support a possession-based playing style – one that is competitive, high-performing, and highlights the best of the talent within the club.

Who Are We: The Wellington Phoenix Board’s long-term vision is to build a club that is self-sustaining financially and which achieves the highest standards of excellence for the football played on the field and the corporate governance and structure off the field.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the ALW Head Coach to provide a detailed level of support that incorporates training sessions, pre-match, live and post-match coaching and analysis through the application of on field coaching, video and data.
Work closely with the ALW Head Coach and the Director of Football to provide information on potential transfer targets and players potentially available to the club and provide analyses when required.
Assist in managing the databases of players identified in NZ, Australia or overseas based clubs on the club’s recruitment policy.
Provide players with individualised analysis in the form of individual clips and statistics as directed by the ALW Head Coach
Work closely with the ALW Head Coach, Director of Football, and Academy Female Development Lead to ensure there is a smooth and consistent Performance Pathway from the Academy age group squads through to the first team.
Keep at the forefront of football coaching and player development trends and advancements in Global Football.
Work on any tasks and provide any support that is required by staff at the club.
Key Competencies (Essential):

Football Coaching Qualifications: UEFA/AFC/OFC A-Licence preferred. B-Licence mandatory.
Broad international football knowledge – specifically Australasian, Asian and European football developments.
Demonstrated experience in football coaching and management.
Organisation & Flexibility – project management skills & ability to manage conflicting priorities
Persuasive – Strong diplomacy & negotiation skills.
Analytical & Innovative – ability to analyse football matches and player abilities.
Articulate – Strong verbal & written communication skills.
Teamwork – Strong collaborative/inclusive approach to problem solving
