Bristol City are seeking applications for the role of First Team Sports Scientist to become an integral member of the Athletic Performance Department and help provide elite support to all first team players.

The First Team Sports Scientist will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of sports science support are provided to all first-team players at BCFC. This role involves a blend of practical, pitch-based work, along with the collection and interpretation of sports science data. You will assist the Head of Athletic Performance and the Head of Sports Science in the physical preparation of the first team squad.

Main Responsibilities

Working closely with the Head of Athletic Performance and Head of Sport Science to ensure effective provision of sport science to first-team players.
Collection, monitoring, and interpretation of external and internal training and match loads of all first-team players.
Maintenance and updating of sports science monitoring databases.
Lead and assist in the delivery of training matchday warm-ups and physical preparation sessions.
Lead and assist in individual and/or top-up conditioning sessions for squad players where appropriate.
Working with the medical team to provide late-stage RTP sessions.
Preparation, collection, and collation of Readiness to Perform testing data.
Feedback of training and match physical data to players and staff.
Implementation of nutritional strategies, in liaison with the Club Nutritionist.
Implementation of appropriate recovery strategies.
Mentorship of sports science and S&C MSc student.
Qualifications / Requirements

The club would welcome applications from individuals who have the following qualifications and experiences:


A qualification at postgraduate level in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning or relevant subject area.
Previous experience working in a first-team football environment.
Experience using external load monitoring systems such as Catapult or other GPS providers.
Experience using internal load monitoring systems such as First Beat, Oura or other internal load monitoring systems.
Experience using VALD systems such as ForceDecks and NordBord.
Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Excel and experience using data visualisation tools such as Tableau.


The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
Relevant professional body accreditation (e.g. BASES, UKSCA, NSCA etc.)
