Role description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist or sports therapist to join the first team medical department at Wigan Athletic Football Club.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Physiotherapy and will be involved in all aspects of treatment room, pitch, and gym-based care of first team squad players. You will work within an extensive multi-disciplinary team to provide treatment and rehabilitation to first team players with the aim of achieving the highest level of care possible. The role will be predominately based at the First Team Training Ground, Christopher Park, Wigan but travel to other sites will be required therefore the successful candidate must hold a UK Driving Licence and be able to travel.
Working hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week flexibly with evening, weekend and bank-holidays required
Contract type: Permanent
You will:
•     The daily assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of players across the first team squad as required and advised by Head of Physiotherapy.
•     To provide pitch side medical cover at training sessions throughout the season for first team squad as required
•     Support with providing medical care at all first team home and away games, inclusive of pre, during and post-game. This to include staying away with first team squad on overnight trips as required.
•     To attend external player medical appointments, as and when directed
•     Completion of medical notes in line with CSP, SST or BASRAT standards for all players under your care.
•     To maintain adequate qualifications to enable completion of job role and ensure adequate CPD to ensure best quality practice and in line with CSP, SST or BASRAT guidelines.
•     Take a lead role in assisting in the provision of pre-season and in season screening of first team players and leading on from this to aid in providing prehabilitation programmes to all first team players to assist in reducing the risk of injuries.
•     Responsible for the management of first team medical equipment stock and clinical supplies and assisting in ordering those supplies.
•     Responsible alongside first team sport soft tissue therapist for all match day packing of medical supplies.
•     Responsible for creating and managing Injury audit and regular injury reports for first team squad.
•     Work within the interdisciplinary Sports Science and Medicine (SSM) team to support player development and education.
•     Assisting in the pre-medical screening process of new first team players as directed by Head of Medical Services.
•     Cover injury clinics during club designated days off, as, and when directed by Head of Medical Services, this to provide first team squad with player care seven days a week where required.
 
The successful candidate will have/be:
 
•     BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy
•     Registered membership to CSP, SST or BASRAT
•     Up to date FA’s Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) qualification.
•     Prior post graduate experience of working within a professional sports environment.
•     A full UK Driving Licence
