Role description

Launched in 2021, the Louisville Soccer Foundation (dba LouCity and Racing Louisville Foundation) is the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of Louisville City and Racing Louisville Football Clubs. The Foundation’s Vision is “Through the love, power, and community of soccer, we will improve the lives of youth throughout the Commonwealth and our bistate region.” Our Mission is “Through community partnerships with schools and youth service providers, we use soccer to provide our youth a safe place and the opportunity dream, thrive, and succeed.”

The Louisville Soccer Foundation is searching for a dynamic and entrepreneurial Executive Director to help implement the vision & mission of this new organization. We are looking for someone with a passion for the game of soccer and a heart for serving the community. The Executive Director will serve as the primary fundraiser for the Foundation and will be responsible for activating the initial strategic plan, launching the inaugural pilot programs, driving & meeting necessary revenue goals, while establishing a strong framework for the long-term success of the organization. Other key duties will include administration, marketing, communications, and community engagement.

The Executive Director will be the management leader of the Louisville Soccer Foundation, reporting to the Board, and partner in working with the teams of Soccer Holdings, Louisville City, and Racing Louisville. The Executive Director is responsible for driving revenue and implementing the strategic plan of the organization.

General Responsibilities:

1) Board Governance: Communicates effectively with the Board to fulfill the organization’s mission.

Responsible for leading the Foundation in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
Responsible for providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the foundation.

Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support LSF’s mission.
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of LSF, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Ensures the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, communications, marketing, and community engagement.

Responsible for implementation of programs to carry out the organization’s mission.
Responsible for strategic planning to ensure the Foundation can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
Responsible for the enhancement of the Foundation’s image by being active and visible in the community and working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
Responsible for close coordination with Soccer Holdings, Louisville City FC, and Racing Louisville FC teams to ensure brand alignment and to pursue mutually beneficial strategic opportunities.

4) Organizational Operation: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure quality programs and the operations of the organization are appropriate.

Responsible for program oversight, coordination, evaluation, and continuous improvement in serving the identified metrics and populations.
Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
Responsible effective administration of the Foundation’s operations.
Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization, following the board-approved policies.

Job Responsibilities

Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, strategic planning, and increasing the overall visibility of the organization.
Determine the staff needed and hire, supervise, and empower organization staff.
Drive the planning and operation of annual budget.
Serve as the Foundation’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and public.
Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the Foundation’s Mission.
Develop and implement the annual fundraising plan and other revenue opportunities – to include corporate sponsorships, individual giving, events, and grant administration.
Develop, maintain, and carry out all marketing and communications efforts.
Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions of the Foundation.
Review and approve contracts for services.
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate:

Knowledge of and experience with the game of soccer, which can include amateur or competitive play, and/or sports business.
Passion and deep understanding of the impact of soccer worldwide.
Advocate for the benefits of sports for youth and community.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Transparent and high integrity leadership.
Five or more years nonprofit management experience.
Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
Experience working with community nonprofits and understanding the needs of underserved youth in our community.
Experience in program development, coordination and/or evaluation.
Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong public speaking ability.
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
