MAIN PURPOSE OF JOBThe Director of Strategy and Compliance will work closely with the General Manager in assisting with all matters related to player budgets, salary cap management, and roster composition strategy for both short-term and long-term success. Responsibilities will include the preparation and review of all MLS league related documents including player contracts and transfer documents. The candidate will also support the General Manager in ensuring the Director of Scouting and Recruitment has the resources to build a comprehensive and effective scouting plan for all club levels. The Director Strategy and Compliance will develop a strategy for not only incoming but outgoing players to maximize both investment and return. Under direction of the General Manager the role will take the lead on negotiating contracts for T2 contracted players and facilitating loan agreements. They will possess great understanding of FIFA rules regarding player transfers including both solidarity/training compensation and manage for both incoming and outgoing transactions. The Director Strategy and Compliance will work alongside the Director of Scouting and Recruitment to provide additional support in player recruitment to ensure a successful and smooth process when advancing in the player acquisition process. GENERIC / SPECIFIC DUTIESProvides guidance on matters related to daily soccer operations strategy Assists on Sub-committee MLS League calls as needed by General ManagerMaintain healthy communication with MLS/MLSNP league officialsStrategizes on salary cap management, player contract structuring, and utilization of allocation fundsPreserves strong knowledge in regard to all MLS/MLSNP rulesEnsures club follows all necessary protocols with regards to compliance with all FIFA, MLS, MLSNP policiesServe as the main team administrator for the teams FIFA TMS portalProvides awareness with regards to all MLS rules related to Free Agency, Reentry drafts, expansion drafts, MLS Superdraft’s etc.Has expertise in MLS/MLSNP roster rules and regulationsAdvises on transfer risk assessmentProvides direction and implements control on staying current regulations and certificationsProvides additional guidance and research at the request of the General ManagerServe as a leader and resource to all team coaches and technical staff on matters pertaining to complianceWork with the Video Analyst for recruitment and advanced scouting purposesSupport in the recruitment process and all stages of player acquisitionWork with the Academy and MLSNP staffs when needed as a resource of support in knowledgeable areasManage the FIFA TMS portal to ensure good standing and regular complianceRepresent Timbers’ best interests Other duties as assigned by General ManagerQualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in sports management, team administration, player relations, public relations, etc.Maintain a high level of commitment to organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.Demonstrated administrative and organizational abilities to manage multiple programs and priorities, including event and long-range planning.Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally.Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.Exceptional knowledge and passion for the sport and MLS. Strong work ethic: team player with a “get the job done” attitude. Bilingual (English and Spanish) fluency a plus.Strong PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Understanding that work might include extended hours, weekends, and holidays when required.
