Role description

The Director of Medical Performance will report directly to the General Manager and will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of medical, physical performance, psychology, nutrition, and sports science across the club, to ensure consistent, excellent service levels and competitive advantage for Angel City FC. They will possess excellent leadership skills, have extensive experience developing and managing medical high-performance teams and a background in optimizing and managing relationships with healthcare providers.Responsibilities:Strategic and operational leadership of medical, physical performance, nutrition, and sports science across the club, to ensure consistent, excellent service levels to players resulting in competitive advantageImplement a complete model of player care that takes a holistic, 360-degree approach to both individual and team wellnessIn close collaboration with team physicians, physical therapists, athletic training and performance staff; design, plan and implement a health, performance, and wellness strategy, including but not limited to: regular physical assessments of players, periodic tests, load monitoring, psychology, women’s health, recovery, wellness assessments and return to playCreation and delivery of core operating processes, protocols, and initiatives which support elite levels of physical capability, low levels of injury, and support for cultural developmentOversee and direct delivery of excellent levels of team services in all areas related to medical servicesServe as an optimal partner to medical provider, Chief Medical Officer, and team physicians. Lead communication, management, and integration of all external care providers and optimize healthcare partnership through increased levels of physician presence and access to careLead the medical assessment and evaluation processes for potential or current playersWork collaboratively within an interdisciplinary player care and performance team, other department / areas and with consultants where needed to achieve the best results for the clubCoordinate internal communications through the appropriate channels, including collecting, collaborating, preparing, and delivering reports on departmental functionRecruit, appraise and develop medical and performance staff in line with organizational needs and individuals’ personal goalsLead the communication process (meetings, reports etc.) between the medical and performance teams and other departments (such as the coaching and front office departments)Lead initiatives to continually develop the high-performance environment (facilities, work areas, equipment)Oversee the research, acquisition, and integration of cutting-edge medical technologies into the medical department, to help advance the department’s service capabilitiesManage the game day medical coverage consisting of field injury coverage, sideline injury management, injury evaluation and pre and post treatmentsOversee management of appropriate game day staff consisting of ATCs, league mandated medical affiliates, x-ray techs, EMS, physicians, etc.Key communicator with game day injuries to appropriate personnel consisting of team physicians, General Manager, coaches, Communications team, and any other pertinent affiliatesOversee the documentation process of injuries, diagnoses, assessments, treatments and return to play datesCreate and manage any Emergency Action Protocols that occur on game day for home and away teamsConduct yearly evaluations of key performance indicators and develop a culture of constant process improvement, with a goal of promoting professional development and fostering an environment of continual learning and new skill acquisitionDevelop and deliver a program of player education to address topics that would influence performance, recovery, and optimal healthComply with all leagues medical policies and protocolsOversee budget forecasting and management in addition to procurement, ordering, maintaining and inventory of technology, supplies and equipmentManage insurance / worker’s compensation claims for playersOther duties as assignedRequirements:Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team in an elite environment with the ability to improve team and individual performanceExperience of working with athletes, coaches and technical staff assisting in the design, implementation, and evaluation of medical and performance programs.
