Job Description / Essential Elements:

The Director of Education for the LA Galaxy is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing educational, social welfare, enrichment, and learning-related initiatives for the organization. This position will create a culture of learning for Academy youth and parents, professional players, and staff. Serves as the organization’s educational leader, pushing the importance of academics/learning, focus on social welfare, and fostering the club’s core value of nurturing talent within the organization.

Daily Duties / Job Responsibilities:

Establishes educational, social welfare, enrichment, and learning-related vision and strategic plan for the Academy youth, parents, and staff
Develops, creates, and implements an accepted and sustainable culture of positive, holistic, youth development within the Academy
Develops, maintains, and oversees the day-to-day operations and programming of the education, social welfare, and enrichment initiatives for all Academy teams (boys and girls), including education staffing structure and schedule
Provides leadership of education staff including instructional coaching through creation and implementation of professional development workshops, monthly staff meetings, and SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) goal setting to promote research-based instructional and classroom management strategies
Supports and evaluates education staff using frequent classroom observations, observation debriefs, instructional plan reviews, data meetings, and formal staff reflections on practice and self-evaluation
Leads content specialists and learning coaches who are responsible for managing learning environment, student success, and parent communication regarding student learning and academic performance
Creates and oversees a strong system for academic and behavioral assessment, data tracking, and appropriate student interventions and effectively communicates data to Academy Directors
Oversees NCAA eligibility, college recruitment, and provides college counseling for boys’ and girls’ Academy (Including, but not limited to NCAA requirements for eligibility, SportsRecruits, communicates with college coaches regarding players’ transcripts and eligibility, PSAT/SAT/ACT, on-site SAT test prep, college applications, financial aid, scholarships)
Develops and oversees (boys and girls) Academy youth leadership program and Academy community outreach initiatives
Oversees implementation of enrichment and social welfare initiatives (nutrition education, financial education, social media education, anti-bullying, Positive Coaching Alliance, field trips, mental health, guest speakers, Career Day)
Develops and implements Parent Engagement Program for all Academy parents
Partners with HR team to recruit high-quality education staff
Develops, coordinates, and implements policies, standards, and procedures for LA Galaxy Academy youth, parents, and Education staff. Addresses youth conduct and employee performance issues
Establishes measures to track year-to-year student data, including GPA, graduation data, post-secondary data, professional contracts, and international professional contracts
Analyzes the effectiveness of programming with pre and post evaluation measures for decision making through the use of qualitative data via surveys and interviews
Establishes and maintains positive and collaborative relationships with Academy youth and soccer staff, partner online high school (Connections Academy administrators, counselors, and teachers), parents of Academy youth (website and newsletter), constituent organizations (YSF, Princeton Review, SNHU, Kinecta, Herbalife, Voxy, etc.), and agents of professional players
Targets potential partnerships with organizations offering no-cost resources toward education, enrichment, social welfare and development and establishes relationship and constituency
Influences members of the organization toward value of learning (professional player and staff English language development solutions and academic solutions for professional players’ educational pursuits)
Collaborates with Academy Directors on soccer-school dynamic, policies, protocols and Academy program-improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications:
Graduate degree in Education or related field. Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Education, or a related discipline highly desired.
A minimum of 10 years of related work experience
Conceptual understanding of and/or practical experience with educational leadership and accountability and current research in learning, motivation, and lifespan development
Ability to apply recent developments, current literature, and information related to online, blended, and personalized learning
Demonstrated ability to nurture the talent within an organization through leading, teaching, and research as well as a commitment to fostering a culture of learning in an organization
Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of colleagues to advance education, social welfare, and youth development
Experience in developing and implementing high school educational programs.
Proven experience mentoring and guiding students through the educational process
Strong organizational skills
Self-motivated with strong leadership skills
Ability to work independently and make decisions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn required business technology/systems.
Possesses a sincere interested in helping others achieve life goals related to education, social welfare, enrichment, and development
Goal oriented and highly ethical
Ability to inspire and motivate staff, students, and employees
Knowledge of soccer development program and philosophy highly desired
