ROLE DESCRIPTION

NJ/NY Gotham FC (“Gotham FC” or “the Club”) is a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.  The Role: Gotham FC is seeking a Director of Data Analytics that will report to the General Manager (GM). The Director of Data Analytics will develop advanced analytical frameworks, systems, and metrics to support Club decision-making.  Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with General Manager (GM), Chief Soccer Officer (CSO), and Head Coach to identify areas of improvement related to individual team performance and roster analysis / player targets that can be accomplished through the use of data Integrate an overall data strategy into Technical Staff workflows that compliments and strengthens existing processes; provide reports and visualizations to Technical Staff to effectively communicate insights uncovered by the used of data related to players, the team, and the league Provide data-driven reports of high-performing and/or high-potential players domestically internationally to inform scouting decisions and recruitment strategy Create and execute on a plan to gather and create the most helpful analytic information for scouting and player recruitment, and automate as much as possible to ensure the club is getting the most productivity possible from data analytics Upon request, in a timely fashion before all Gotham FC games, provide Coaching Staff with analytic information on opponent; ensure information provided is highly beneficial to coaches Work with High Performance dept. to incorporate physical data to guide high performance strategy Adopt enhance the Club’s current data collection and storage protocols such that the best practices related to data are utilized within the Sporting dept. Monitor developments in broader soccer analytics research and incorporate new ideas and practices where appropriate in order to stay at the forefront of the analytics space Maintain a strong working knowledge of data sources available to the Club Automate reporting processes where possible Oversee the maintenance of databases Plan, conduct, and oversee novel statistical research, including through existing academic partnerships with universities Other duties as assigned  Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in statistics, computer science, applied math, economics, physics, or a related quantitative field Strong proficiency in either R and/or Python (both preferred) Strong proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets Demonstrated familiarity with soccer analytics 2+ years of professional experience in sports analytics or a related field SQL/Database management experience API experience  Capability Other Characteristics: Demonstrated familiarity with recent public research in the field  Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical insights into tangible conclusions that can be understood and acted upon by members of the front office and coaching staff Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends during trade and transfer windows  Location:  This position is based at Gotham FC’s soccer operations office and practice facility, currently located in Whippany, New Jersey.  Ability to work at the team’s business office, currently located in Jersey City, as needed will also be required. The person must be able and willing to attend all Gotham FC home games, and as necessary, away games and other business-related travel.
