We are hiring a Director, Data and Analytics for the Performance, Medical and Innovation team. The Washington Spirit leadership is setting a vision and building an infrastructure in which all the players and staff can thrive. The Director, Data and Analytics will: Develop and align the data management vision and implementation strategies with the overall Washington Spirit philosophy of developing women as women.Evaluate existing and emerging technologies and manage the initial development and regular update of the Data and Analytics technology roadmap to support the organization’s strategic direction of using cutting-edge data and analytics to enhance player performance and business operations.Design, develop, and implement data and analytics products to support Washington Spirit’s key initiatives. Manage and optimize Data Operations (DataOps) to maximize speed-to-insight; DataOps includes Data Governance (e.g., Quality and Security), Data Source Identification, Data Migration, Data Storage and Compute, Data Access, and Data Analysis.Continuously improve analytics maturity within the organization to move the Washington Spirit from reactive decision-making (i.e., descriptive and diagnostic analysis) to proactive decision-making (i.e., predictive and prescriptive analysis as well as artificial intelligence/machine learning).Our ideal candidate has: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree in another discipline may be acceptable when augmented by higher levels of education or applicable experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of sports analytics, or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides you with the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.Experience on a team or leading integration efforts for merging data and analytics platforms with enterprise systems and applications. Minimum of three (3) years of experience with at least one technology or language in the following categories: Cloud service providers (ex. AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure, etc.); Data lakes and warehouses (ex. Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.) ; Programming languages (ex. SQL, Python, R, etc.) ; Data visualization tools (ex. Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Amazon QuickSight, etc.) Demonstrated knowledge of Data Operations (DataOps), to include data management functions such as Data Governance, Data Migration, Data Storage and Compute, Data Access, and Data Analysis.Strategic thinking and mental flexibility to be able to understand the details of the problem and the big picture solutions. Meticulous attention to detail in striving for high levels of accuracy.Ability to cultivate relationships with a high degree of emotional intelligence and advanced communication and presentation skills. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with experience exercising mature judgment. Enthusiastic and energetic team player with the ability to work effectively independently as well as in a collaborative environment. Proven experience effectively prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and work objectives in a fast-paced environment. Passion for the success of Women’s Professional Sports, innovation, research and an appetite for an exciting new sports landscape.Preference for: Master’s degree in Sports Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.. Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, Scrum or other project management certification.Good knowledge and tactical understanding of soccer.Experience using data from Performance data sources such as STATSports, Vald, Polar, Second Spectrum, and Electronic Medical Records, as well as Athlete Management Systems to produce analytics. Experience with artificial intelligence or machine learning.Required: Ability to work non-traditional hours, including scheduled games that can/will be weekends, evenings and perhaps Holidays.Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
