Columbus Crew Overview
Columbus Crew is the first club in Major League Soccer. The Crew is operated by The Edwards Family and Haslam Sports Group. The Black Gold are the 2021 Campeones Cup winners. The Club has won two MLS Cup championships in 2008 and 2020, one Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2002, as well as MLS Supporters’ Shield titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009. The 2022 campaign is the Crew’s 27th season in MLS as well as the Club’s first full season at Lower.com Field. The 2022 season will also see the launch of Crew 2, a member of MLS NEXT. The club will play at Historic Crew Stadium, MLS’s first soccer specific stadium.
Description
Columbus Crew is looking for a creative and strategic digital communications leader to serve as the Digital Brand Community Manager. This key role will manage the Club’s brand, voice, tone and personality across all Club social and digital platforms. This newly designed role will help oversee digital and social media strategy for all Club platforms with an aim to generate brand awareness, build brand affinity and engage our supporters as well as future fans. This position reports to the Club’s Sr. Director of Brand Strategy Innovation and works closely with the Social Media Coordinator and as well as across all business functions of the Club.
Essential Duties Responsibilities
Oversee, manage and execute social and digital media strategies across Club platforms
Oversees the planning and posting across all social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube
Lead role in match day content plan and strategy across social media channels
Leverage a data-driven approach to storytelling; ability to synthesize research and insights to evolve tactics and constantly innovate across channels
Develop audience-specific strategies to better engage our current supporters, the community, the global sporting market and beyond
Refine and advance the Club’s brand, voice, tone and personality across all Club social and digital platforms
Serves as the champion of the Club’s digital efforts across the organization with the mindset to never settle for “the way it’s always been” and push for constant digital innovation
Collaborate with leaders across the Club to shape and help bring the Crew’s brand, mission, vision and values to life
Ideate, create, edit and execute on-brand content
Represent the content department in key cross-organization meetings to serve as the digital/ brand collaboration quarterback
Ultimate oversight of the develop and management of the department’s content calendar– with responsibility of aggregating key Club-wide marketing and messaging priorities
Responsible for social and digital analytics and reporting
Ability to understand the ecosystem of digital and social media within an organization and ability to produce strategies and tactics to support business goals including but not limited to brand health and growth, supporter and community relations and revenue generation
Required skills, experience abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Multimedia, Marketing or related fields
At least 3 years of professional experience in social media and content strategy
A demonstrated history of brand and community building, developing and overseeing content strategy and management
Strong working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube required
Strong working knowledge of Content Management Systems, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS and Microsoft Office software is preferred
Experience live-tweeting and posting across multiple social media platforms regularly without supervision for organizations, preferably in sports
A passionate storyteller with the ability to craft clear and concise copy
Experience within professional sports, entertainment or brands a plus
Strong knowledge of industry technologies and trends and willingness to stay up to date on best practices
Creative thinker and strategist with an ability to stay organized and manage projects
Ability to work both independently and with others on multiple projects with various deadlines
Strong work ethic, attention to detail and leadership skills
Knows when to stand up for digital strategy and a passion to inform and educate the importance and power of digital
Ability to work home and away matches
Ability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays
