Introduction :

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is the governing body for Association Football in the Republic of Ireland. The FAI has primary responsibility for all regulatory and footballing aspects of the game in Ireland.

Reporting to the Head of Education and Development, the Coach Development Manager will be involved in supporting and leading aspects of the FAI’s Coach Development Strategy. The role presents a real opportunity to support transformational change in coach development in Irish Football. This role will be integral in shaping the future of coach development in Ireland with the primary focus being the implementation of the Football Pathways Plan (FPP) 2024.

The Position:

Working as part of a large football division to provide improvement, leadership and management in driving the progress of coach development. The role will involve working closely with all key stakeholders within Irish football, UEFA and FIFA, and supporting the Head of Education and Development in working with the Director of Football and key FAI staff.

The role will build on the foundations already in place and recent positive developments within Irish football, but will also lead the delivery of bold development strategies to take coach development to the next level. The successful candidate will work across all areas of coach development, from Grassroots to the professional game. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a collaborative and holistic fashion to match the needs of all our stakeholders and to be experienced in and have the ability to implement an expertise approach to coach development.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the evolution of coach development, from a competency based approach to an expertise based approach to coach development.
Lead the delivery of the coach development strategy from the FPP and the Education & Development Strategy.
Integrate the ethos of lifelong learning, a modern holistic approach to coach development, through an expertise approach to coach development.
Work closely with the Head of Education and Development to implement the new approach to coach development.
Align all current UEFA Licence coach education programmes to Sport Ireland’s framework ensuring an alignment academically to the QQI.
Conduct research and benchmarking on a regular basis to identify best practice and trends in the development of coach development.
Develop a broader approach to coach development to coincide with the delivery of UEFA Licence, bespoke programmes of development such as education and training for High Potential Coaches, Leadership and Management Groups, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide coaches with the best education and development possible.
Complete annual reports, hattrick funding, sport Ireland and internal reporting on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis for coach development across all regions in Ireland.
Direct reports to UEFA, FIFA and the Head of Education & Development and the Director of Football.

Key Skills and Experience:


Experience and understanding of the delivery of an expertise approach to coach development.
A deep understanding of best practice in coach development, including a broader understanding of best practice in football development and talent development.
A deep understanding of the Irish football landscape.
A passion and motivation for the development of coaches in Ireland.
Leadership experience in an expertise environment to coach development role or equivalent sporting environment.
Lead the development of a strategic development programme for high potential coaches and individuals.
Experience of managing key relationship between internal and external stakeholders.
Experience of developing and delivering strategies.
Proven track record in the delivery, development, and implementation of a high performing culture and environment.
Proven decision making and problem-solving ability with experience in managing diverse teams.
Team Player, Talent Developer, and the ability to lead and inspire a team to success.
Energetic, and enthusiastic with excellent people, interpersonal and communication skills.
To be able to represent the FAI professionally and influence decisions with all stakeholders across the game.
