Technical Director Job Description

CLUB BACKGROUND
JGSC provides team play, programs, and camps for all ages and abilities from U3 to Adult. The club is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors, with a Technical Director and Operations Manager managing the day-to-day operations. The club operates with a team of Program Head Coaches and over 100 volunteer coaches and assistant coaches.

OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Technical Director is responsible for the club's technical investment in its player base, with a particular emphasis on youth player development. Core to the role is the creation and implementation of the club's Technical Development Plan that will outline the club's commitment to the development of its players, coaches, and referees in line with the principles of Long-Term Player Development. Reporting to the Club’s President, the position manages the Club's overall budget and directs the activities of the Club's entire technical staff faculty, including the club's Coaching Development while managing and overseeing the operations of the club.
The Technical Director must work well in a team-environment and will inspire, delegate, and support others. As a key leader in the club, the Technical Director will be looked upon for professionalism, mindfulness, organization, and good communication.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Leadership
o Actively promote the technical vision and underlying to the club's varied stakeholders, including non-technical people.
o Assist the Board and Technical Staff in development and implementation of a strategic plan to establish critical priorities and objectives to guide the JGSC’s long term future.
o Act as the chief spokesperson for the club on club-level technical development matters, including external liaisons with governing bodies and leagues.
o Lead in the recruitment and development of head coaches and coaching staff while directly managing their performance and technical matters of the Club.
o Directly manage education and development opportunities to the club's coaches.
o Directly manage the Referee Department and oversee their progress to recruit and develop the club's referees.
o Liaise with SOSA, Ontario Soccer, Canada Soccer, and other league and governing bodies to develop optimal player development pathway for the Club's player base.
o Establish partnerships with university, colleges, and professional soccer organizations to drive the progression of the club's top soccer talent to a higher level.
o Work with local schools to develop soccer and promote the Club.
Technical Program Development
o Drive the club’s values & principles towards the club's youth players, including an enhanced training component.
o Build on the Club's existing development & grassroots program base to create a full annual development program.
o Establish structured, program-wide coaching and player evaluations and other program quality management initiatives.
o Establish and run (through admin & technical staff) annual summer camps with options for the club's more advanced players.
o Ensure continuous improvement in all club processes to maximize operational efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
o Perform all other duties including public relations functions as may be requested or as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Budget & Revenue Management
o Ensure timely, accurate, and complete reporting of all JGSC operations, including financial, and ensure the adoption of effective financial management practices through a sound system of internal control.
o With support from the Club Treasurer, establish and manage the Club's overall budget, including competitive team budgets, and other technical cost and revenue items.
o Directly manage the technical staff budget dedicated to coaching and administrative personnel in the Club's technical department and associated programs and competitive teams.
o Responsible for the provision of data needed to accurately track the Technical Department's actual cost vs budget.
o Lead and plan the organization of the Club’s annual tournaments – in particular the Gaels Cup and House League tournaments through support of Admin Staff, Technical Staff, and the Board of Directors.
o Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key decision-makers in Kingston and the local community and private corporations/sponsors to increase revenues and improve the delivery of service and programs to the membership.
Reporting
o Prepared to provide the President with monthly reporting for inclusion in reporting to the Board of Directors.
o Attend all formal meetings, as required by the Board of Directors, Board directed sub-committees, marketing and other club/volunteer events including the JGSC Annual General Meeting.
o Oversee player skills testing and the collection of other technical data needed for evaluation of technical programs.
o Contribute as part of the Club's staff management team to meeting and reporting requirements of the Club's Board of Directors and its sub-committees.
o Other ad-hoc tasks as directed by the President.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must Have
- Minimum National B Coaching License or international equivalent,
- Knowledge of and support for the Canada Soccer’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model.
- A proven track record in the development of youth soccer programs at Grassroots level, with recognized accreditation and experience in youth and mini coaching.
- Experience with coaching both male and female soccer and the design of associated technical programs.
- Knowledge of elite player development systems and how they differ and integrate with community sport programs.
- Experience directly managing, mentoring, and motivating highly qualified, elite coaching personnel.
- Experience with and a passion for the education and development of coaches at all levels.
- An understanding of youth soccer competition structure and how it relates to optimal player development.
- Experience managing technical staff, budgets, revenue generation, and associated cost management and reporting.
- An ability to think and plan strategically, and effectively link technical planning with broader club goals and strategic intent.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to convey technical planning to non-technical Club stakeholders, including the parents of players.
- A team player, with an ability to operate as part of an integrated multi-functional management team.
- Valid drivers’ license
- A criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
Preferred to Have
- National/CONCACAF A
- Ontario Soccer Technical Director Diploma
- Related education/work experience.
- Strong use of various software programs including The Coaches Manual, VEO, Soccer Session Planner, Microsoft Office, OSCAR, and SportsEngine.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience in the range of $70,000 - $90,000
