Hartlepool United Football Club is a professional association football club based in the North-East of England. It is one of the oldest clubs in the world with history that traces all the way back to 1881.

The club was rescued and purchased by Chairman Raj Singh in 2017 following a period of decline and mismanagement that saw the team relegated into the National Leagues.

Since 2017 extensive progress has been made both in terms of restoring financial viability to club and business as well as progressing the team and football operations. After a highly successful 2020/21 league campaign the team secured promotion back into the English Football League.

Having recently secured a championship class training facility at Durham University and with advancing plans for a new town centre stadium development, the Club is very well poised to further progress in its football league status. The position of Chief Executive Officer / Chief Operating Officer will look to build upon recent successes and represents an incredible opportunity for the correct candidate to help shape and lead the next chapter in the Club’s remarkable history.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors and Chairman.
Overall responsibility for off-field commercial budgets and targets of the club.
Leading and inspiring delivery of targeted best in class operational and commercial solutions, working closely with incumbent Head of Operations.
Supporting day to day line management and development of operational and commercial staff alongside the Head of Operations including Ticketing, Retail, Matchday, Commercial, Grounds & Facility, Football Administration.
Leading and supporting commercial team members to identify, drive and deliver new commercial opportunities and growth. Personally leading high value commercial partnerships where necessary.
Overseeing and driving improved operational control systems alongside the Head of Operations and finance team.
Representing the club at all senior executive meetings with the EFL and relevant governing authorities.
Leading supporter group integration.
Being the main Club spokesperson with media and press when required.
Integrating with site development and new stadium development plans and project team.
Supporting the 1st team manager where necessary to ensure smooth delivery of 1st team football operations.
Working with the Board and football department to deliver and manage a full football pathway programme including integration of Academy and Community Foundation.
Supporting the 1st team manager directly and managing staff where necessary, to ensure smooth delivery of football operations including facility requirements, matchday, football budgets and elements of player recruitment.

Candidate Requirements

Proven senior management track record with relevant sector experience (experience in professional football sector highly desirable, experience in other comparable professional sport sectors is a minimum requirement).
Ability to lead by example and to be hands-on in delivering change and growth.
Ability to inspire people with varying skill sets from various departments.
Ability to handle pressure and to satisfy multiple stakeholders to deadline.
Strong presentational skills and media awareness.
Track record of delivering and managing financial budgets and targets.
Flexibility with working hours to suit the demands of the business including attendance on home matchdays.
Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and manage lasting relationships.
