Chicago Red Stars Athletic Training Student InternInternship Description: This internship consists of full immersion in athletic training services for the Chicago Red Stars. This includes pre- and post-training treatments, rehab programming and facilitation, training coverage, match day stretcher crew, and documentation. The intern will not travel with the team but is expected to be present at all home matches. The student will work closely with professional athletes, carrying out daily athletic training services under the guidance of the Head and Assistant Athletic Trainers. The student is expected to display their current athletic training skills while seeking opportunities to learn new skills. Clinical questions and discussions are encouraged. The intern may be able to observe the team physician and physical therapist when on-site. Professionalism and maturity are expected at all times while around staff and athletes. The internship will serve toward clinical credit for a CAATE-accredited program. Hours:The Internship schedule will follow the team schedule, which is subject to change at any time. The Intern will be asked to work flexible hours, including weekends and late nights. The intern will have time off when the team is off and when traveling. The student can expect to work an average of 30 - 35 hours per week. Further details will be provided upon release of the schedule. Dates: The internship will ideally span the entirety of the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) season. However, the start and end dates can be flexible based on the requirements of the individual's MSAT program clinical rotation. The intern must be enrolled in a CAATE-accredited program for the entire internship. Roles/Responsibilities: The following are expected of the intern under the supervision of their preceptor: Evaluation, assessment, and documentation of injury Pre- and post-training treatments Rehab programming and facilitation Training and Match Day hydration and medical equipment set up/take down Match Day treatments Match Day stretcher crew Requirements: Enrolled in a CAATE-accredited program CPR/BLS certified Pass a background check Complete SafeSport training COVID-19 vaccination*The internship will take place in Bridgeview, IL, so it is highly recommended that the intern has access to a car.
