Role description

The Zions Bank Training Academy center opened in 2018 in Herriman, Utah, approximately 20 minutes southwest of Rio Tinto Stadium. The training facility serves as the daily training home for both of the club's professional teams – RSL (MLS) and Real Monarchs (MLSNextPro) – while centralizing the club's U-17 and U-15 academy teams. The facility consists of five natural grass fields, one outdoor artificial stadium field, and two indoor artificial fields.
This at-will position will report to the Director of Fields and Grounds & the Fields – RSLTA. Under their supervision, the First Assistant Superintendent participates in the maintenance of the five natural grass fields and three artificial fields. The First Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and will help supervise 2 other full-time workers and 4 part-time workers. They will monitor moisture levels, hand water, mow, aerate, fertilize, etc. This position is a great opportunity to participate in the maintenance of one of the premier practice facilities in Major League Soccer.


Performs sports field maintenance activities such as: 
Toro Sentinel Irrigation programming, installation, and maintenance. 
Paints and prepares fields for various sporting events such as rugby, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and high school football. 
Designs and Implements fertilizer programs for fields and landscapes
Manages the maintenance and preparation of artificial turf. 
Uses mowers, trimmers, and blowers to ensure the successful operation of the grounds and fields. 

Assigns and manages daily tasks of the grounds crew. 
Other duties as assigned.


Three years minimum experience working with Sports Turf required
Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; the seeding, sodding and maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including pumps and automatic controls.
Possession of a valid driver's license and excellent driving record
Able to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
Must have a working knowledge of the successful operation of the following: 
Toro Reel and Rotary Mowers
Toro Utility vehicles

The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 30 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 50 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, etc. Also, working long hours in the early mornings/late evenings.
