As part of the Academy Sports Science & Medicine team, you will play a key part in the performance team with the aim of Enhancing the development of young players, Measuring performance & development, and Educating players, coaches and MDT staff.
To follow the HCPC standards of proficiency for therapists working within your scope of practice and refer to other professionals when required. Including with the Academy Doctor when necessary.
To adhere to all club policies with particular emphasis to safeguarding children and ED&I.
To ensure all academy players under your care receive appropriate and clinically reasoned treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention exercises.
To follow the trauma management strategy and site specific EAP’s, whilst ensuring appropriate medical cover is provided at all training sessions and games with age-appropriate medical equipment present. To check the equipment regularly and ask for training when unfamiliar with any equipment
To embed the Academy Performance Plan (APP) into practice and assist to developing the performance section of the APP specifically for the FDP/ YDP assisting with the PDP alongside the Head of Sport Science and Medicine.
To assist the medial service within the Academy adhering to Premier League Youth Development Rules reporting into the Head of Academy Medicine.
To assist the PDP caseload
Liaise daily with the Performance team and MDT to provide injury, rehabilitation and prehabilitation updates on players under your duty of care
To liaise with parents as and when necessary to provide them with the relevant information regarding medical care.
To ensure all academy under your care receive appropriate assessments from initial injury to return to play.
To ensure all medical records are maintained in line with the relevant bodies’ rules and regulations. To ensure that medical records include the relevant information to allow completion of 6 weekly cycle injury audits and reflections across all age groups.
To ensure all relevant medical and sports science data is processed into the Performance Management Application. (PMA) including updating the Players Performance Clocks
To participate and contribute to relevant player/parent review meetings throughout the season providing feedback from a performance team perspective.
To follow the Performance department’s purpose statement and look to meet the Performance departments Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
To assist with testing, screening, and monitoring of academy players reflecting and developing each process regarding current literature producing individual programs.
To provide effective communication strategies to inform relevant staff of the progress of players under your care, in particular the Head of Sports Science and Medicine, Senior Academy Physiotherapist the Academy Manager and the relevant Coaching Staff.
To monitor, maintain and update your relevant medical qualifications and registrations meeting with Head of Academy Head of Science & Medicine to communicate and ensure current qualifications meet the necessary requirements of the relevant governing bodies
To promote a safe culture at the club practicing within the guidelines set by the club and Safeguarding Officer attending any training required. To communicate with the Head of Science & Medicine if there are any safeguarding queries or issues.
In conjunction with the Academy Manager carry out 2 formal staff appraisals and at least 2 informal appraisals to communicate learning needs, CPD opportunities and twice a year.
To liaise with the Head of Science & Medicine every 3 months to ensure appropriate CPD training is being provided.
To monitor and reflect upon the practices and treatment you provide to ensure continual professional development.
To seek assistance and guidance when required from the senior medical staff with complicated diagnoses and cases
To support and teach university students on placement at the club assisting with objective setting.
To contribute positively to the Clubs vision and culture.
To promote and adhere to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and to work consistently to embed ED&I into everything
To ensure the working environment is free from harassment and discrimination and any other form of unacceptable behaviour
To fully participate in one-to-ones and departmental reviews and meetings
To fully participate in annual and midterm appraisals for all reporting staff
To understand the Club’s Safeguarding policy, procedures and best practice guidelines and use this to ensure appropriate and safe working practices applicable to the role
To carry out CPD and keep up to date with any training and updates relevant to the role
To ensure the health & safety within the Club for self and others is adhered to at all time
To carry out all responsibilities with due regard to the Club values and all policies and procedures, in particular Health & Safety,
Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding
To undertake all required training, including mandatory Club Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding and Health and Safety training.
