We are currently recruiting for an Academy Head of Player Care and Safeguarding Officer to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality player provision throughout the Academy.
The ideal candidate will have experience in working with elite young athletes, with the ability to understand the emotional and well-being challenges this may bring. You will have experience in developing and implementing programmes, be an excellent communicator with the ability to build trusted working relationships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To liaise with the club Head of Safeguarding on all safeguarding issues relevant to the academy and inform all academy staff of issues they should be aware of in conjunction with children’s officer.
To ensure all Academy staff undergo appropriate DBS checks and suitable vetting
To deliver in conjunction with the club Head of Safeguarding, relevant Safeguarding training to all Academy Staff Refer and Report all necessary safeguarding concerns to the Head of Safeguarding
Administration. Maintain Safer recruitment records (on line). Report and record concerns on the ‘My Concern’ System
Promote Safeguarding throughout the academy.
Assist in the development and implementation of the Academy strategic Development plan.
Ensure Compliance with Premier League, EFL and FA in relation to all Safeguarding Matters. Monitor and ensure compliance with mandatory visits.
Liaise with Local Authority statutory Agencies and Birmingham County FA
Provide support and guidance to all Academy, staff, Parents and Children in the area of Safeguarding.
Help to assist and develop Academy workforce development plan in relation to Safeguarding
Carry out occasional overseas risk assessments for Academy tours.
To liaise with the club Head of Safeguarding to ensure we meet all the legal requirements of players under the age of 18 living in club accommodation.
Liaising with Key Academy staff coordinate the living accommodation for all scholars and trialists. Including accommodation visits, payments and all host family education.
To liaise with Premier League Learning, EFL and League Football Education on all matters related to Safeguarding and Welfare
To attend all relevant meetings and conferences organized by the relevant organising bodies.
To liaise with other academy staff members to ensure a development program is put in place to meet the needs of individuals.
To continually monitor and measure the Academy Performance Plan making sure it underpins the work of the department.
To provide leadership and manage staff responsible for off field non-football matters relating to players in the Academy, including but not limited to welfare and mental health.
Ensure our academy players are cared for and supported to the highest levels.
To ensure that young people and Parents have a voice in the Academy.
Working alongside the Educational department make sure players on the Full time programme are managing school/football challenges
To develop, implement and oversee the Academy’s Personal Development and Life Skills programme including Individual Development Action Plans.
To be a member of the Academy Management Team.
To attend all in-service training sessions and meetings when requested.
To maintain your qualifications in-line with FA rules & regulations.
To adhere to club policies with particular emphasis to safeguarding children and equity.
To report any serious breaches of discipline to the Academy Manager.
To complete all necessary paperwork as requested by the Academy Manager, The Premier League or FA including items such as session plans, feedback forms, Sep folders, progress reports and any other forms should they be requested?
To adhere to the coaches/staff code of conduct.
To converse and liaise with parents when required.
To aid in the transport of players when necessary.
To participate in tour and tournaments.
To report any matters of concern related to your duties to the appropriate person.

ESSENTIAL AND DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Experience of working with young elite athletes
Experience in Safeguarding and the protection of young people
Experience of managing a team of people
Experience of developing and implementing new ideas
An understanding of the emotional challenges and well-being requirements of young people
Strong organisational skills
Ability to work autonomously on own initiative and pro-active in managing own time
Ability to build strong relationships with players, parents and stakeholders
A full clean driving licence and access to own vehicle
Excellent communication skills
Excellent IT skills (including MS Office – word, excel, Powerpoint)
Ability to work to tight deadlines
Previous experience of working in Academy football
Knowledge and experience of FA & EFL Safeguarding Policies and Minimum Requirements
