Job Title: Academy Head Athletic Trainer
Department: Academy Player Medical
FLSA Type: Salary Exempt

The Academy Head Athletic Trainer will be primarily responsible for managing the health care and rehabilitation of all Sounders FC Academy players, as well as managing and supervising all part-time Academy Athletic Trainers, student Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and Medical Aides supporting the Academy players.
Under the direction of the VP of Sports Medicine:
Manage the health care of all Academy team players (ie rehabilitation, prevention, making medical referrals).
Work with VP of Sports Medicine to integrate First Team practices and methods to Academy (treatment/rehab/prevention strategies).
Monitor all movement of Academy and Tacoma Defiance players throughout the teams to ensure minimal risk of injury and maximum performance is maintained.
Organize attendance and completion of entrance/exit physicals and Dr appointments/surgeries for all Academy players as required by US Soccer regulations.
Counsel Academy players in regard to dietary needs, nutritional supplements, and League/FIFA banned substances.
Maintain a complete and up to date roster of player health and participation records in the team provided electronic medical record system.
Electronically document first report of injury, player treatments, and return to play dates for various purposes.
Provide daily communication to the Vice President of Sports Medicine and the Tacoma Defiance Head Athletic Trainer regarding player movement, health, and treatment/rehab plans when applicable.
Coordinate communication between Vice President of Sports Medicine, Tacoma Defiance Head Athletic Trainer, Dr’s, coaches, players, and parents/guardian following injury/surgery.
Daily communication, and weekly Medical Reports to all Coaches and Medical Staff regarding Academy players health and availability.
Communicate with other teams regarding player health when advised by VP of Sports Medicine.
Compile reports as required by Sounders coaches, Vice President of Sports Medicine, Tacoma Defiance Head Athletic Trainer, and US Soccer.
Work alongside Tacoma Defiance Head Athletic Trainer to ensure best care, communication, and planning for the entire player development department is performed.
Oversee Academy medical personnel to ensure best practices are carried out throughout the Academy program.
Manage and supervise 3 to 4 part-time Athletic Trainers, student Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and medical aides working with Academy players.
Build working relationship between all medical staffs (weekly meetings; discussions; problem solving).
Organize daily/weekly/monthly staffing responsibilities for the Academy teams and tournaments.
Organize staffing of all training sessions, games, treatment, and rehab sessions for the Academy.
Manage Academy medical budget.
Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment.
Keep training room and clinic area safe, clean, and organized.
Comply with, and help manage, all COVID-19 protocols and/or testing requirements as determined by Seattle Sounders FC and MLS.
Comply with OSHA standards with regard to blood borne pathogens.
Provide medical assistance to the Team Physician.
Under the direction of the supervising Physician assist the organization and maintenance of pharmaceutical inventory and records.
Participate in activities/meetings/programs as required by US Soccer and community service/educational programs related to sports medicine.
Other duties may be assigned.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or Master’s degree (M.S.) in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.
2+ years experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer required.
Medical soccer experience preferred.
NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
In good standing with NATABOC and a member of the NATA (or CATA).
Washington State Department of Health License in Athletic Training.
Current professional CPR/AED certification.
A team player who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups - including Sounders FC players, coaches, team personnel and League staff.
Strong organizational and personnel management skills.
Professional demeaner, punctual and reliable.
Bi-lingual (Spanish / English) or Multi-lingual skills a plus.
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
A passion for soccer highly desired.
This position will primarily work from the Sounders FC training facility at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, WA.
Must be available to attend all Academy matches and training sessions and/or work MLS/Second Team matches and trainings as required by VP of Sports Medicine.
Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Employee must reside within Washington state upon date of hire.
Employee will be required to occasionally travel to off-site meetings and other functions and must have a reliable means of transportation. Some out of town travel will be required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to busy athletic facility areas, outside weather conditions and loud noise levels and may require standing on feet for long periods of time, as well as some heavy lifting (20+ pounds).
Must be fully vaccinated at the time of hire and follow all club and league COVID-19 protocols.
