Our Organisation

Charlton Athletic Football Club operates a highly successful youth academy that has a rich history of producing players that progress through the development system to play at first-team level.

The club has always had a focus around the local community and the academy, which is supported by fan-funded organisation Valley Gold, prides itself on recruiting and developing home-grown players, identified from inner and outer London. Combined with recruitment of players from the other areas of the UK and, at times from abroad, there has been a seamless flow of talent over many years at the academy that has enriched the first-team environment and led to many successful academy teams.

Following the implementation of the Premier League Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) in 2012/13, the academy was awarded Category Two Status. It is the intention of the football club to support the academy’s ambition to attain Category One status.

The current investment and upgrading of facilities at the Training Ground will greatly assist this objective and enable the academy to raise the bar further, developing elite players for the future game.

Role Description:

Charlton Athletic are looking to recruit a casual goalkeeping coach to work across both the Foundation and/or Youth development phases within in our Academy, providing individual support to the goalkeepers, goalkeeping department and 9-16 aged players across the academy.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver elite level, age appropriate, goalkeeping coaching sessions in alignment with the Academy coaching philosophy.
Ensure each individual needs are catered for using the Club’s playing principles, individual development plans and style of play are adhered to.
Meticulously, plan and record goalkeeping coaching sessions using the PMA system across the Foundation Phase and Youth Development Phase.
Attend and support the goalkeepers on matchdays, whilst also assisting team and lead coaches.
Assist in the transition of academy goalkeepers through each stage of the performance pathway up to and including the Professional Development Phase.
Ensure the effective use of the performance management platform to record all required performance data.
Review and manage individual goalkeeping development plans for goalkeepers within the academy.
In collaboration with other staff, use modern technology and creative methods to aid the tactical, psychological and physical development of all goalkeepers across the academy.
Analyse and use performance data when providing cycle reviews on individual player development and for mid / end of season reports.
Collaborate with phase leads and team coaches regarding individual development, player selection and holistic development of the young goalkeepers.
Assist in the talent identification and recruitment of goalkeepers across the youth academy, providing feedback using the academy goalkeeping framework.
To attend any appropriate age-phase meetings and Continued Professional Development courses organised by the club, in line with the Academy Coach Competency Framework (CCF)

What we are looking for:

Education/Qualifications or internationally recognised equivalent:

Essential:

UEFA B in coaching Goalkeeping Award or equivalent
FA Youth Award (FA Youth Modules 1, 2 and 3/or working towards)
Safeguarding Children in Football
Basic First Aid in Football or equivalent
Desirable:

UEFA A Licence in coaching goalkeepers
UEFA A Licence in coaching football
FA Advanced Youth Award in youth goalkeepers
Sports or relevant degree
FA Tutor Status, teaching or coach education qualification.
Specific Personal Experience:

Essential:

Experience of working with goalkeepers within the Foundation/Youth Development Phase age groups
Strong mentoring and personal skills with young people.
Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team as well as taking own initiative
Competent use in Microsoft Office and other football related software packages.
Reliable and committed towards the role
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, welfare and equality.
Trustworthy with sensitive data
Excellent communication and personal organisational skills.
Able to work flexible hours
Desirable:

Previous experience of working with Elite Goalkeepers (across different age ranges) in a professional club.
Tutor or Teaching experience.
Comprehensive understanding of EPPP and EPPP Audit Process
Experience in using PMA System
