Role description

Austin FC joined Major League Soccer (MLS) as the League’s 27th club in January 2019. In June 2021, Austin FC began play in the new, 100% privately financed, $260 million, state-of-the-art Q2 Stadium. We are actively seeking an Athletic Trainer Intern to join our Academy Department.

In this internship, you will gain valuable exposure to the technical side of our Academy department. This internship will provide hands-on experience while being exposed to high performance staff and high-level youth soccer players and coaches.

You Will:
Assist in medical coverage, injury assessment/ treatment, and rehabilitation services for athletes under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer; and
Collaborate with coaches, athletes, performance staff, and medical professionals to improve and manage player condition; and
Gain exposure to high level youth soccer Academy players and coaches; and
Assist in educating athletes about wellness and performance goals; and
Coordinate with the High-Performance Coach and Head Athletic Trainer in the progression of athletes throughout the injury process; and
Participate in a minimum of two practices per week (evening sessions); and
Participate in all games which take place on Saturdays and/or Sundays (approximately 15 in a season).

You Have:
Demonstrated experience working with youth athletes, preferably in soccer with a passion for sports
Experience working for a Major League Soccer organization a plus
Demonstrated experience working with youth, collegiate, professional and/or elite-level athletes is preferred
Strong understanding of the challenges that athletes face, sports injuries, and treatment options
Demonstrate ability to discuss nutrition, wellness, and lifestyle strategies with elite adolescent athletes
Understanding of first-aid treatments, massage, and physical therapy techniques and equipment
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media with diverse audiences
A commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally
An outstanding work ethic and attention to detail
The ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks
Certified and licensed athletic trainer or grad/undergrad student at a CAATE accredited program
CPR/BLS certified
English and/or Spanish language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better

This is a part-time unpaid internship and students should ideally be able to gain academic credit for their participation.
The Internship will be approximately 20-24 hours of work per week with the internship starting September 2021 and ending July 2022.
